YP Hot Spot: SpiritHouse

SPIRITHOUSE is a new spirits bar/restaurant on the ever-evolving Portland strip (which saw Gusto 101 open up just a few months back). It’s a beautiful spot, perfect for after-work drinks and some shared plates.

The Toronto Institute of Bartending operates out of the same building, which is wher TIB’s Len Fragomeni got the idea to somewhat combine the idea of a spirits bar (a heavy focus on actual good liquors, liqueurs, and the like versus trying to make nice-sounding cocktails out of subpar stock). The drinks list is intensive, and will likely require a long glance over while you decide which of the dozens of concoctions to test.

The menu isn’t huge (maybe 20 or so items) but boasts dishes that pair with the drinks, not the other way round. Very apropos for an establishment dedicated to the art of the sip. The space is sophisticated, and one lounge area feels almost like a gentlemen’s club-style speakeasy, with rich leathers and old woods.

SPIRITHOUSE is a great addition to the near-King West strip. Boasting proper drinks, proper food, and a proper space, it’ll quickly become a top spot. Head over for a night with the boys, ladies night out, or that romantic date. It’ll appease all, and, well, raise your spirits.
