Your Instagram Photos Will Soon Be Saved in HD

We can’t believe it’s taken this long, but we’re damn glad it finally happened.

There have been a lot of changes being made to Instagram recently, and very soon, your Instagram photos will be saved and displayed in 1080×1080 resolution. It’s a significant upgrade from the current 640×640 format and very necessary in keeping up with larger phone screens with remarkably high-quality displays.

Instagram is already uploading photos in 1080×1080 resolution on its website, which would suggest users will be privy to doing the same in the near future.

It’s important to note that the high-res photos uploaded by Instagram are uploaded in their original state and not stretched from a 640×640 version, which phones with large screens are currently forced to do.

The phot0-sharing app is also saving your current uploads in the higher quality format, which can be viewed relatively easily. Via TechCrunch: From Chrome, click on the picture you want, and then go to View > Developer > View Source. Hit CMD + F and search for “n.jpg”. The hyperlink associated to the .jpg will be the photo you chose, so simply copy that link into another browser tab.

You’re one step closer to being a ‘real’ photographer.
