Young Athlete Profile: Arjan Bhullar

The Olympics are here, and while you, like many young professionals, are facing rush hour traffic head-on, stressing about that big presentation on Friday, and competing against co-workers for that coveted promotion, there is a whole other genus of YP out there about to face one of the most important milestones of their careers. Instead of the commute to the office downtown, these YPs are traveling across an ocean to get to work. Rather than a PowerPoint presentation in front of peers, these YPs are presenting their work to the world. And no one knows better about competing with colleagues than them. Welcome to Notable’s Young Athlete (YA) profile series, where we will be giving you a snapshot of a notable Canadian athlete competing in this summer’s biggest sporting event, 2012 the London Olympics. Introducing Arjan Bhullar…

Name: Arjan Bhullar

Sport: Freestyle Wrestling

Years Active: Bhullar earned a bronze medal at the Pan American games in Rio de Janeiro in 2007.

London Olympics: Men’s 120kg Freestyle Wrestling. Competing on August 11th.

What is one quirky fact about Arjan that no one else knows? “He is a very simple man, who says he thinks best when he is in the shower.”

What are Arjan’s alternative hobbies or interests? “He loves muscle cars. He owns a 1970 Chevelle, which he fully restored (took him roughly three years). He is an old school guy himself, but loves the feel and power of cars from that era.”

Which individual does Arjan admire, and why? “Muhammad Ali. He admires him not only for his athletic ability and achievements in the ring, but also what he accomplished and stood for outside of the ring. He was more than just a boxer. He was a man of the people and transcended his sport; something Arjan always looks to do as well.                  “
