“Write a Letter, Win a House.” (And send $25).
That’s the simple premise of Alla Wagner’s effort to find a new owner for her beautiful lakefront home in Millarville, Alberta. The house’s market value is $1.7 million. The market is exactly what Wagner would rather avoid.
“We love our home and would never consider putting it on the market, especially in the current turmoil that Alberta is experiencing,” she wrote on the contest’s Facebook page. Wagner says her declining health means she can no longer live comfortably in the huge abode.
Inspired by the 1996 film “The Spitfire Grill”, Wagner decided to hold a letter-writing contest in which the best 350 words will fetch a brand new place to live.
All you have to do to is answer the question, “Why would moving to this lakefront dream home change your life?” better than anyone else (in fewer than 350 words).
Oh, and you have to send $25 otherwise this whole exercise obviously doesn’t make any sense for the owner. There must be enough entries to reach a minimum amount of $1.7 million, which means at least 68,000 people need to participate. Otherwise, everyone gets their money back and the house will presumably be sold in the traditional boring way.
The best entries will advance semi-final stage, at which point a social media contest will whittle them down to 500 finalists. A panel of judges will then choose the winner.
So, why?
“In my opinion, a most incredible way to find a truly exceptional reason to bestow your treasured home (not just for $$$ but for sentimental reasons) upon someone that can skillfully and creatively convey to me and a panel of judges how this spectacular home would change or improve his/her and their family’s life,” wrote Wagner.
