You Can Indulge in Wine and Oysters During This French Marathon

If marathons aren’t your thing but wine is, perhaps you haven’t heard about Le Marathon du Medoc.

It’s the only marathon that feeds you wine and oysters while you run.

Held near Bordeaux in France, 8,500 runners from 71 countries will travel a 26.2-mile route while indulging in wine and enjoying gourmet eats and ice cream.

Don’t expect to see traditional running gear at this marathon, either – runners will rock carnival-themed outfits for this race.

“This year for the first time we’re laying on a breakfast, with viennoiseries, at the third kilometer,” a race spokesman told connexionfrance.com.

“After that they set off again on the normal route – with tastings on the way – and then at the 37th kilometer there’s a meal with oysters, entrecote steaks, cheese and ice cream and then there’s a little surprise at the 41st kilometer. I can’t say what it will be, but it’s edible.”

There will also be live entertainment along the way and massage stations toward the end to ease the pain if the wine isn’t helping enough.

The whole thing sounds pretty amazing to us.

The good news is that there’s no rush to finish, so you can take your time with the wining and dining. Participants have 6.5 hours to complete the race.

Once they cross the finish line, a massive ball and fireworks show awaits.

While the concept may sound like a total liability, according to the spokesman,“If you drink in moderation, you finish your race with no problem.”

This year’s marathon takes place on Saturday (September 10).

And all of a sudden, a casual marathon run sounds pretty good.
