YEDaily: Sammie Kennedy

29-years-young fitness guru Sammie Kennedy started with thoughts of a future in Medical Radiation Technology, but slowly found her calling in creating her own company Booty Camp Fitness in today’s YEDaily

With her own published books, DVD sets and nearly 100 locations across Canada, Sammie Kennedy and her company Booty Camp Fitness encourage women all over the country to be fit and have fun in their classes specifically designed for women, by women. Since it’s humble beginnings of Sammie as a personal trainer, this largest female boot camp in Canada has helped countless women see physical fitness and success, all thanks to Sammie in this Monday’s YEDaily…

Elevator Pitch: Describe your job in a nutshell.
In a nutshell, I guess you could call me the “master solution finder”. Since I’ve grown this company from the ground up I really can tackle any department and issue that arises. I’m a jack of all trades and willing to get right in there with my team but I’m also the ultimate decision maker and direction giver. I find the route of “best resistance” for the company to take in order for it to continue to thrive and grow.

Why did you start your company? What was the inspiration for this route?
Nearly five years ago I started Booty Camp Fitness. It was actually a spin-off of my own private personal training company. I had grown my private practice to the extent that I wasn’t able to fit more clients into my schedule and was generating a waiting list of ladies looking to start training. When the early spring of 2007 came around I was inspired to start taking clients outdoors into the warmer weather and out of the stuffy gym to exercise. One thing led to another and I figured I could find the solution to my waiting list and train a larger group to accommodate more women and Booty Camp was born! I haven’t looked back since and it’s been the most rewarding experience.

What is the best part of what you do on a day-to-day basis? The most challenging part?
The best part of every day is being able to work with my incredible team and interact with our outstanding recruits. We really have created a positive, fun friendly fitness community and it’s a blast to be a part of that! The most challenging part would be of course the administrative and legal work that comes with running a business. It’s not always sunshine and rainbows, but it’s part of the job that ultimately keeps us on track.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In five years I certainly hope to have established myself as a national/or international fitness expert through continuing to grow Booty Camp, using the DVD programs we have created and books and perhaps new evolving concepts.

What does success look like to you?
Success counts in the number of women’s lives I have affected. I would like to inspire 1,000,000 women to learn more about living a fun, healthy and active lifestyle!

What is the most memorable milestone in your career?
I would have to say I am very proud of being the number one ranked Best Small Medium Employer in all of Canada in 2010. I’ve always strived to create a positive and fulfilling work environment that is fair and rewards its instructors. Having my own team vote us number one was an outstanding accomplishment.

Do you have any advice for other young professionals?
Follow your heart and your passion. If you are doing something you love it’s not work and is so very incredibly rewarding.

Do you support any charities? If so, which one(s) and why is that important to you?
I try to support as many charities as I can that focus on women’s or children’s issues. As a former x-ray technologist at Sick Kids Hospital, children and families are very near and dear to my heart. Booty Camp participates in the Run for the Cure, Toy Mountain and other initiatives whenever possible.

What to you is notable?
To me it’s notable to take risks and follow your passion. It takes a lot of courage to go against the grain and do what ultimately makes you feel happy and those who pursue their passion have unlimited success.

Blackberry, iPhone, Android, or Other?
iPhone baby all the way!!!
