Elevator Pitch: Describe your job in a nutshell.
I own and manage THE Salon Beauty Bar in Vancouver. We’re a full-service, boutique-style beauty bar located in beautiful Coal Harbour. We beautify our clients from head-to-toe with hair, makeup, aesthetics, facials, massages, and even laser treatments.

Why did you start your business, what was the inspiration?
I have always been a major girly girl! I love anything to do with fashion, hair, makeup and beauty. It was a natural fit for me to start a business where I can make people feel great about themselves. I’m a true believer that when you look good, you feel amazing, and that feeling is priceless!

What is the best part of what you do on a day-to-day basis? The most challenging part?
The best part of my day is being able to open the door to my very own salon! It honestly doesn’t even feel like a job. Truly, though, I get to meet so many wonderful people every day, and building relationships with my clients is an absolute pleasure.

The most challenging part is managing a team of creative professionals. Each member of the team is an artist in their own craft, and with that comes strong opinions and values. We are very fortunate to have an environment of respect, so that makes this task much simpler than it could be.

Where do you see your business going in 5 years?
The sky is the limit in the beauty industry. There are always new opportunities! I recently launched a new division of my business called Mobile Makeup, where we completely mobilize a team of professional makeup artists to bring beauty right to your door. Between weddings, photo shoots and special events, there is a huge need for this service in Vancouver. I’m really excited to see where this unfolds.

What does success look like to you?
I see success in the feedback I get from my clients, when they return time after time, rave about their experience, or even ask me when I’m going to open another location. It really allows me to see that I have put my vision to life.

What is the most memorable milestone in your career?
I’ll always remember signing the lease for the store space. It was an oddly ceremonious moment where I knew I was fully committing to my dream.

Do you have any advice for other young professionals?
Follow your dreams, don’t give up, and remember that anything worth it is never easy.

Do you support any charities? If so, which one(s) and why is that important to you?
I’m fortunate to run a business where I can donate products and services that allow us to contribute to a wide variety of causes. Between myself, my team, and my clients, there are so many wonderful organizations near and dear to our hearts that I am grateful to be able to contribute to.

What is Notable to you?
In today’s fast-paced world, a customer service experience that is above and beyond is notable to me. I’m passionate about this, and make sure it’s a fundamental part of my business. I never forget that we are in the service industry, and that every client’s experience should be as memorable as their very first appointment.

Blackberry, iPhone, Android, or Other?
I’m a BlackBerry girl!

How do you keep active, energetic, and vibrant?
Keeping active and energetic is a huge part of my lifestyle! I go to the gym 4-5 times per week and a morning walk is my favorite way to start a productive day – rain or shine!
