Worth Biting Into: Macaron Day in Vancouver

YVR’s own Jour du Macaron will again take place on March 20th and we thought we’d scour the city in search a few notable spots serving up these sweet treats with a twist of charitable good. As arduous a task as it was, we’ve got a noteworthy list of our top picks.

First stop on our list has got to be a visit to Thierry Chocolaterie Patisserie Cafe on Alberni Street. This gorgeous little bustling location is easily accessed from the heart of Vancouver’s CBD – so perfect for young professionals pining for an escape from the office. Choose from an array of sandwiches, baked goods, chocolates and selection of coffee, tea and even wine – they also feature a dozen different macarons on any given day. For Macaron Day, Thierry will feature a limited edition “Cherry Blossom” macaron with honey butter cream filling and signature housemade cherry jam center. What’s more, 10% of all sales will go to St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation. Not feeling the ‘pink’? We vote you taste test their salted caramel macaron for pure pleasure.

Next up and worth checking out, head down to Granville Island’s Edible Canada for your next fix. We love the laidback vibe of their bistro (not to mention drool-worthy selection of artisan treats!). Special for Macaron Day, they’ll be featuring Vancouver-made Kitchening & Co’s pre-boxed assortment of cookies in a half a dozen different flavours with percent of proceeds benefitting charities (up to $10K!) helping the DTES of Vancouver. While you’re there, you might want to enjoy a glass of BC wine, or sign up for one of their upcoming culinary tours, guest chef dinners and more

Another best bet in terms of searching for a light, mid-day macaron fix for your sweet tooth has to be a quick trip to the Rosewood Hotel Georgia’s own Bel Cafe for a sweet mid-day treat. We love the convenient location (perfect for busy YPs on the hunt for a civilized setting for that light bite lunch. In addition to a selection of tasty, gourmet sandwiches, salads and soups, Bel Cafe features a variety of sweet endings…and will be offering a special flavour of their signature Macarons on March 20th, as well as donating partial proceeds from macaron sales to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society’s ‘Kids Picks’ program.
