The World’s Oldest Surgeon is Almost 90 and Performs Four Operations a Day

The world’s oldest surgeon likely has half a century on you and probably does more in a day than you may do in a week (not to make you feel bad).

Eighty-nine-year-old Alla Illyinichna Levushkina is a surgeon at Ryazan City Hospital near Moscow.

And she’s not there for moral support either. She still performs four operations every day. She is thought to be the oldest surgeon in the world who is still working.

Four operations (excuse us as we ponder our life existence).

She also has more than one dependent at home. The near 90-year-old lives in an apartment with her disabled nephew for whom she cares and her eight cats.

In her 67 years on the job, she has performed more than 10,000 operations. And, no, she has no intention of slowing down, thank you, very much.

“Being a doctor isn’t just a profession but a lifestyle,” she told Lite FM when asked if she had any plans to retire in the works.

“If I stopped working, who is going to perform the surgeries?”

So, what’s her secret (and where do we sign up)? Apparently, she doesn’t really have one.

“I just eat everything, laugh a lot and cry a lot.”

Hmmm….so maybe there is hope for us (?).
