Winterlicious Favourite: Czehoski

Czehoski perfectly blends modern downtown sophistication with rich heritage design in an 1880s building in the heart of Queen West. Built on Polish and Czech tradition, this long-time hot spot specializes in classic, comfort food dishes free of all the fuss and pretention you might expect from a restaurant of its caliber. You’ll definitely want to book a table as soon as Winterlicious reservations start on January 12.

You’ll find succulent cuts of meat and fresh seafood paired with variations of potato side dishes, served smashed, sweet or in fondant form. We always find ourselves having the impossible task of deciding between the seared albacore tuna (potato fondant, crab, tomato, black olive, herbs, vinaigrette) or angus beef ribs (smashed potatoes, braised kale, roasted herbs and garlic, BBQ sauce).

One must-have on the menu to never skip out on, perhaps unsurprisingly, are the pierogis, consisting of sweet potato smoked gouda, roasted garlic and braised cabbage served with crème fraich.

If you’re just interested in appetizers, you’ll love the artisanal cheese board, featuring local cheese from Leslieville, and the beef poutine. Czehoski also offers excellent vegetarian options, highlighted by an apple and endive salad to start and a delectable risotto accompanied by caramelized root vegetables, sage and walnuts.
