Winter is here, the snow is falling, and car starters around the city are in full effect. For YP guys it goes beyond bundling up for tobogganing, it’s about dressing in style like real men. Ladies, you can help; get your guy geared up with this season’s must-haves. We spoke with Calgary’s own fashion guru Styleista, to find out what YP gents will need for the winter season to stay warm and stylish from head to toe.
When you’re out and about in the city, keep those winter accessories cozy and fashionable. Chunky knits are ‘it’ right now, so find yourself a knit toque and do a scarf when possible (which is pretty much all the time in Calgary). Don’t be afraid to do patterned scarves with a little color like blue gingham or multi-coloured stripes. For hands, we suggest a pair of great leather gloves with a shearling liner to keep those texting tools toasty.
Layering is key in the winter so you can stay cozy outside and comfortable in. For the laid-back YP, start with the not-so-basic white tee. Go for a slim fitting v-neck or crew neck that is the perfect length, just below the belt, or a polo. Layer with a denim or plaid button up and top it off with a tweed sport jacket that is warm and durable, which will look good with every type of pant from jeans to khakis. We know you do a lot of walking, so sport a pair of funky socks that let your personality peek out over a pair of miner-style lace-up boots or a great pair of waterproof kicks.
More of an office guy? Go with a slim-fitting wool suit (like Calvin Klein), which is great for all those holiday parties you’re bound to be attending. Pair that with penny loafers or leather slip-on dress boots. A goes-with-everything overcoat that’s tailored and long is the perfect piece to complete the ensemble.
For the ladies, remember the holiday season is as close as the snowflakes, so keep these dapper duds in mind when looking for gifts for the men in your life. Socks, underwear and ties make great stocking stuffers!
