Why Glenbow’s Schmancy Party is a Must Attend

‘Museum’ and ‘party’ in the same sentence?

You’re damn right.

And that’s because Glenbow’s annual fundraiser isn’t your standard exhibit. Think: high fashion, big names, and some of the best Canadian art you’ve ever seen.

Schmancy isn’t taking place until February 7th, 2015 but here’s everything you need to know right now.

Oh, Canada
Art lovers, prepare to be really, really excited. Coinciding with Schmancy, the Glenbow (along with three other city galleries) will be displaying pieces from MASS MoCA’s exhibition titled ‘Oh Canada’.

While most Canadian art might make you want to hit the snooze button, this collection features so much more than you typical wilderness landscape painting.

No disrespect, Emily Carr.

With names like Douglas Coupland, Marcel Dzama, and BGL, this is basically a who’s who of Canadian art.

And even though we’re so used to being humble, this collection is going to make you feel pretty stoked to call yourself a Canuck.

Even more interesting, the entire Oh Canada exhibit has been curated by an American who spent months travelling across the country to pull these pieces together. Basically, it’s a look at what makes Canada cool from an American’s perspective.

Talk about unexpected.

Big Names
Beyond the art, the evening is sure to be keep you entertained with 3 Canadian performers sharing the spotlight. Polaris prize-winner Tanya Tagaq will be wowing crowds with her throat singing while Shane Koyczan – Olympic performer – will be throwing down some spoken-word wizardry.

Media darling Jessie Cruickshank – of Canada’s Smartest Person– will also be in attendance and acting as the lead MC for the evening.

But don’t worry; there won’t be any trick questions.

Under 30
To sweeten the deal, for any of you young professionals out there who still haven’t celebrated the big 3-0,  you can take advantage of a screaming deal on tickets.

But even at regular price this event sells out every year so don’t wait to get your ticket for what is sure to be a legendarily Canadian art gala.
