Where Else To Go For Sushi in Montreal Part Two

This sushi adventure has been more than we had bargained for when it comes to ‘tasty sushi we have never tried before.’ Our hunt this week brought us to Jun I (pronounced simply “juni”). Yet again, we were not disappointed.

Located in the hip Laurier neighborhood in the heart of Montreal’s Plateau, Jun I puts a modern, fine dining and fusion twist on authentic sushi fare. Juniphiles, as regulars are notably called, will say that this restaurant is a true find when it comes to sushi. Jun I’s innovative chef spins up some tasty fresh sushi as well as some creative European-inspired Japanese mains and appetizers. And for Jun I, presentation is everything.

For a different sort of entrée, try their Shiromi Bruschetta (basically Italian Bruchetta with a Japanese twist). Thin slices of Sea Bass are served with dried tomatoes, fried basil, and fennel vinaigrette on crispy toast and it will literally blow your socks off. Or try their Homard Meuniere from their Kitchen Appetizer Menu and munch down on a half lobster meuniere style served with bucatini, pan seared artichoke, and lobster sauce. For your main, you must must must order the Peking Duck at least once, which is served with honey and spicy sauce accompanied by pan-seared foie gras. And lastly, it is in your best of interests to try their Red Tuna Tartar with Oyster Mushrooms.

Expect upper-end pricing at this sushi joint but realize that not only will you be dining on the finest Japanese food in town, but you can also count on doing so in a very high-end, classy atmosphere suitable for any important business meeting or hot date.
