What Made Us Fall In Love With Toronto This Week: September 13 to 19

Who would have guessed that Toronto could be profoundly sporty, pleasantly gluttonous and uber-thrifty all in the one week?

Well, we pulled it off.

From gulasz to games, and cross-town to cabbies; Toronto might be filling up, but it still knows how to get around.

PanAm Games Ticket Requests Opened Up
As of Monday, formal requests/reservations could be made for tickets to the upcoming 2015 Pan Am Games, being held in our very own T-Dot.

The magnitude of this event might not immediately sink in – yes, we know it’s not the Olympics – but sift through the endless list of available ceremonies and games being hosted across The GTA (and beyond) and it becomes pretty apparent that this thing is huge.

Whether you’re into Judo, Rugby, Track, Bowling, or Basketball, it’s time to start ironing out those Canadian flags. Cause we’ve been reminded; Toronto isn’t playing any games, people – it’s hosting them.

Polish Festival
It’s one thing to be a multicultural city. It’s quite another to have a Polish Festival that seriously kicks ass.

Most cities are perfectly happy with national holidays, St. Patty’s Day, and a sprinkling of international restaurants. But not Toronto: “You’re all Polish? You love being in Toronto? Perfect – you should have a festival.”

The streets were rammed with people listening to Polish tunes and tasting culinary classics like pierogis, gulasz, and kielbasa. Then they were washing it all down with plenty of beer and the national liquor of choice: vodka. Folks, they had a VODKA GARDEN. That is easily the coolest thing that we never knew existed. Poland + Toronto = <3

UberX
Anyone who has travelled outside of Toronto knows that while incredibly accessible, it’s also offensively expensive to take cabs around this city.

Between our constantly deteriorating traffic situation and the $4.50-baseline meter-mauling, cabs are starting to make the TTC look like a lottery ticket.

But things just changed.

UberX is now available in Toronto, along with a fairly short list of other big cities, and to sum it up, cab-life just got a lot cheaper. And more enjoyable. Thanks to this service, all kinds of wonderful, friendly people are becoming taxi drivers and are offering people rides in comfortable cars with free bottles of water and significantly discounted rates.

Toronto is now consistently cutting the line with all kinds of products and services. So even when things don’t seem awesome here, awesome is usually just around the corner.
