What $2,500/Month (More or Less) Rents You in the OP

Dear readers, welcome back to Realty Bites! A few weeks ago, I wrote a column that explored what one can rent for a set dollar amount in various Montreal neighbourhoods. Given the number of Tweets and Facebook likes generated by that article, I decided that once a month I would dedicate my column solely to hot rental listings. That being said, I present to you: Lease Biters!

If you aren’t yet ready to buy property in the OP (those of you who read last week’s column know I am referring to the Old Port) but are sold on the idea of having OP passport ownership, check out the notable rental deals below. This week’s price: $2,500 – more or less.

1. 64 St-Paul O. – $1,900/month

Live here and you will have an exclusive and prestigious address to call home. Cité du Nouveau Monde is without a doubt one of the most sought out buildings in all of Montreal. So, if you are a single YP and spend the majority of your time out and about, this is the ideal one bedroom condo for you. It comes fully furnished and is only 680 square feet, which means you will spend less time cleaning and more time socializing!

What’s notable?  Philemon is right across the street… Problem? I think not… Spa Scandinave is conveniently located on the first floor of your building so you can detox after your big night out with Johnny Walker! Listing Broker: Marc Harroch.

2. 137 St-Pierre – $2,000/month

This place may appear slightly outdated and in need of some TLC, but it’s nothing a fresh coat of paint and sleek furnishings can’t fix. Use your creativity and it can be transformed into THE dream penthouse! And have you seen the price? This two-level apartment is huge with 1,500 square feet of livable space. On the top floor, there are 2 bedrooms each with their own bathroom; on the main, a large living room with brick walls, a skylight and a wood-burning fireplace.

What’s notable? Not only is there a common rooftop terrace for you to mingle on with your neighbours, you also have the luxury of sunbathing on a very private terrace adjacent to the master bedroom. Talk about outdoor space in the heart of the city! Did I forget to mention there is a doorman there to greet you with a smile 7 days a week? Listing Broker: David Maruani

3. 365 St- Paul O. – $2,250/month

This one bedroom + office penthouse apartment has it all: renovated kitchen and bathrooms, hardwood floors throughout, exposed brick & stone and last but not certainly not least, a fabulous private rooftop terrace which will allow you to see the OP from a whole new perspective!

What`s notable? Location, location, location! That is the key word for this condo as it is situated on the most vibrant part of St-Paul near McGill… and I’m not talking “tourist-style” vibrant as is the case on St-Paul near la Place Jacques Cartier. Barroco, Bocata, Osteria Venti, Marché de la Villette, Olive & Gourmando; have your pick! All these acclaimed eateries share the same corner street as this splendid penthouse. Listing Broker: Joseph Montanaro

4. Place d’Youville – $2,500/month

Pure and contemporary with an impeccable layout and an intelligent lighting system, this loft has been designed and decorated with European flair. With fashionable furniture, a marble bathroom, sliding glass doors enclosing the bedroom and a white brick wall, every time you turn the key, it will feel like you checked into one of Philippe Stark’s hotel suites.

What’s notable? There are two main entrances to this building. Strut your stuff and step out in style on St-Paul or stroll out on Youville and relax with a book on a park bench. This spot is also favurite to many Hollywood movie directors. In fact, Bradley Cooper was on set there for the filming of “The Words” just last summer! Listing Broker: Florence Lezmy

5. Place d’Youville – $2,700/month

Apartments with unobstructed views are scarce in the OP; apartments with unobstructed views of the St-Lawrence River in the OP are almost non-existent, and if they do exist, they are rarely listed on the market or have an extravagant price. That is not the case here, however!

What’s notable? With floor to ceiling windows facing south west, this condo offers one of the most spectacular water views I’ve ever seen. And for $2,700/month, you get 1,800 square feet of area and a parking space. Now that’s a deal, if not THE ultimate Lease Biter! Listing Broker: Pierre Melillo
