Weekend Long Birthday Celebration for Loblaws at Maple Leaf Gardens

On Thursday, we were on site at Loblaws Maple Leaf Gardens to help put the finishing touches on the store’s massive President’s Choice Giant Holiday Gingerbread House, in a celebration that marked the store’s one-year anniversary in the iconic building. Yesterday morning, the way larger-than-life gingerbread house came to life in the Canteen, treating guests to a spectacle like no other as the edible house, made from over 1,000 tiles of gingerbread, 700 pounds of colourful candy and complete with Christmas tress, a fireplace and, of course, a seat for Santa, was illuminated to officially kick off the holiday season. The house soars as high as the store’s well-known cheese walls and covers the entire Canteen.

Win Aunt or Uncle of the Year award between now and Christmas and bring the youngest members of your extended family to visit the old man himself, as Santa will be in the house to take holiday wish list requests, with elves on hand to help kids decorate their very own gingerbread cookies. At $2.00 per piece, all proceeds from the gingerbread men will be donated to the President’s Choice Children’s Charity. For an additional $5.00, families can have their picture taken with Santa.

Loblaws store Maple Leaf Gardens executive chef Mark Russell and his team will be working overtime to provide mouth-watering holiday treats and give interactive cooking demonstrations. In addition, musical acts will entertain guests all weekend, like the Mary Mac Duo tomorrow (December 2) from 11:00am-3:00pm.

Another excuse to visit the one-stop store for holidays, President’s Choice has everything for holiday entertaining. We got to sample delicious eats first-hand at the President’s Choice Cooking School lunch, where we happily enjoyed the to-die-for lobster mac and cheese, blue cheese stuffed mini burgers, turkey and spinach meatballs, oysters Rockefeller, smoked salmon and stuffed potatoes, among other things. A mixologist prepared cocktails sure to please guests this holiday season, like the Blood Orange Punch, White Sangria, the Cranberry Fizzy Gin and a cosmopolitan, with all recipes available at pc.ca.
