Victoria Harrison: Today’s Notable Young Professional

Today’s Notable Young Professional is Deux Face eyewear designer Victoria Harrison, who created her own career path after she recognized a lack of fashionable frames for individuals with high prescriptions and those who don’t want to wear another “me too” brand…

Elevator Pitch: Describe your job in a nutshell.
I’m the Designer of Deux Face eyewear – distinctly designed, trend-setting eyewear. My objective for each collection is to create unique frames for the fashionable consumer who wants their glasses to be a statement of their personal style.

Why did you start working at your company? What was the inspiration for this career route?
My position as an eyewear designer found me as much as I found it. I was hired under the pretence of being an analyst, determining which colours, sizes, and shapes sell best in certain areas based on demographics and sales. I recognized that there was a lack of fashionable frames for individuals with high prescriptions and those who don’t want to wear another “me too” brand. Having a very high prescription, I was inspired to draw glasses that were trendsetting and outside the box while still being able to conceal thick lenses.

What is the best part of what you do on a day-to-day basis? The most challenging part?
The best part is the ability to be creative. I sketch each piece and sometimes sculpt pairs as well. Some of my personal frames are painted, which I adore.
The most challenging part is trying to keep the designs fresh and couture, yet still wearable.

Where do you see yourself in five years?
Designing glasses. I truly love what I do.

What does success look like to you?
I am very fortunate to travel the world. Through my travels, I discovered success comes in many forms. Happiness is at the root.

What is the most memorable milestone in your career?
Being recognized in fashion blogs. Geek chic is cooler than ever, and I am privileged to make a contribution.

Do you have any advice for other young professionals?
Don’t be upset if things don’t go as planned. Sometimes the road unanticipated can lead you on an amazing journey that was beyond your dreams.

Do you support any charities? If so, which one(s) and why is that important to you?
I am in the process of finding a charity to partner with right now.

What to you is notable?
Being true to what you believe in and sticking to your gut. Rarely does it disappoint.

Blackberry, iPhone, Android, or Other?
I diversify my tech accessories: Android for my cell, and Apple for everything else.
