Vicky Boudreau: Today’s Notable Young Entrepreneur

Today’s Notable Young Professional is BICOM Communications Co-founder Vicky Boudreau, whose passion for having her finger on the pulse of the public relations industry and emerging trends has propelled her agency to become a leader in lifestyle media across Canada…

Elevator Pitch: Describe your job in a nutshell.
I am the General Manager and Co-founder of a public relations agency specialized in lifestyle. I am constantly expanding my network all the while expertly developing business opportunities both for BICOM and its clients.

Why did you start working at your company? What was the inspiration for this career route?
I met my business better half, Marie-Noelle Hamelin, 10 years ago and I knew from the beginning that building BICOM was going to be quite an exciting journey. I am more of the creative thinker with big dreams and she makes sure that things happen. I could not succeed without her!

What is the best part of what you do on a day-to-day basis?
I love meeting new people and being in contact with people. Whether it’s interacting with clients, media, my team, or suppliers, I feel like I learn from others every single day and it’s always a pleasure for me to put people in touch if it’s helpful for them.

The most challenging part?
Stress! Within my responsibilities I am pitching new business, and I put a lot of pressure on myself as I love to win. Also, all the little details about running a business are piling up, and when everything runs smoothly it’s a sign that it won’t last and you should be working harder to be ahead of the competition.

Where do you see yourself in five years?
Our company is growing steadily with a team of 25 people now, as well as a new office in Toronto launching January 2015. In the next years I see myself serving our actual clients as well as developing more business and contacts in Toronto.

What does success look like to you?
Being able to look back, feel proud, and surf on that vibe for a moment. But for me personally it never lasts long! I am always aiming for the next project.

What is the most memorable milestone in your career?
I would have to say that it was organizing an international phone press conference with Larry King for the WCIT. Having my team reaching media in several countries at the same time and hearing this amazing media icon sharing the key messages I prepared for him felt almost unreal.

Do you have any advice for other young professionals?
Be kind and honest! You never know where it can lead you. I believe in what I call business karma. Be your best with everybody, from the smaller supplier to your most important client, and it will always come back to you.

What to you is notable?
Thank you notes. I love receiving those so I try to send some when I can. It could always be a simple email to thank. It’s a small gesture but always appreciated.

BlackBerry, iPhone, Android, or Other?
iPhone 4; I know, it’s vintage, but I have no problem with it.
