Vancouver Weekender: September 26 through 28, 2014

Pack your weekend with plenty of the hottest events, seasonal markets, openings and galas taking place over the next three days.

Friday

Check out Roland’s on Fourth, a new little hot spot that has just opened in Kitsilano and is bound to become a favourite watering hole.  Featuring a menu laden with classed-up comfort food selections (check out the menu here), we’re betting you’ll want to get cozy.

If you haven’t already caught a few screenings at the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF), use this weekend as the perfect opportunity to do so. Featuring flicks from more than 70 different countries, there’s no shortage of entertainment to take in.

Saturday
IDSWest is on all weekend long and the place to head to for some style inspiration and entertainment. It goes down at the Vancouver Convention Centre and features insightful seminars, speaker series, live demos and more. Learn all about how to get published, how to live big in small places, and the latest design trends for 2015.

Etsy Vancouver in collaboration with the Emily Carr Etsy Team is hosting the first every ‘Made in Canada’ pop-up marketplace this Saturday at the ice rink at Robson Square showcasing Vancouver’s most talented artisans, artists and makers. Tackle holiday shopping early or spoil yourself just because.

The Black Diamond Gala takes place on Saturday night and is the perfect way to break out that LBD this fall. Tickets are $150 with proceeds going to help raise funds and awareness for BC Adaptive Snowsports. Mingle with Vancouver’s top movers and shakers, check out the live auction and music, and enjoy wines by Chateau Ste. Michelle.

The Brilliant Gala provides you with (yet) another excuse to dress to the nines for a night out at one of Vancouver’s most historic hot spots to raise a glass: The Commodore Ballroom. Help raise money for St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation. Party the night away alongside 900 other guests and performers who’ll be on hand for a night of music, dance, fashion and more.

Sunday
Eat Local and head to one of the many farmers’ markets this weekend. They’ll fully stocked with seasonal produce, fresh baked goods, coffee, sweets and more to keep your fridge packed for the week ahead… plus it’s just great to support start-ups in the community.

The Greek Food Festival is taking place all weekend, so save up an appetite this Sunday and head over to Vancouver’s unofficial-official Greek ‘hood along the 4500 block of Arbutus for a feast. They’ll have live music, the best selection of Greek food, Greek karaoke, a comedy night and more.

Say Wha?! is guaranteed to add a little humour to the mix on Sunday night and is definitely where you want to be if you’re a fan of ridiculously bad writing read out loud. Yup, you heard us… it’s a night centered on live readings of some of the worst published writing around presented by Sara Bynoe.
