Vancouver Weekender: October 2 through 5, 2014

We’re well into autumn, there’s no denying it. But that definitely doesn’t mean it’s time for you to get all cozy on the couch at home. This weekend, you’ll want to be out and about town given all the events and happenings taking place.

Thursday

Harvest Haus is hosting its official opening night party in celebration of its weekend-long Oktoberfest extravaganza. Strap on those lederhosen and lace up that dirndl for an evening of beer-swigging fun. Given that the Friday and Saturday night seatings are already sold out, Thursday night’s soiree is the best way to go in our books.  You can deal with a little workday hangover the next day, right?

After you’ve reached your beer limit, we suggest you head over to Granville Street and hit up the opening party for twelveWEST. This is guaranteed to be one event not to miss. Owned by the same team behind westOAK and Pierre’s Champagne Lounge, they’ve spared no expense in creating a cool new space. It’s Vancouver’s newest elite nightclub experience with 7,000 square feet of space, a 37-foot long bar, exquisite custom designed mirrors, Swarovski chandeliers and one massive dance floor.

Friday

Who can say no to a plateful of perogies? We certainly can’t and doubt you can either. This always fun and packed event takes place at the Ukrainian Cathedral and features plenty of good grub at a steal. Doors open at 5pm with lineups forming quickly given that this event only happens on the first Friday of each month. Hungry for more details? Click here.

Saturday

Doors Open Vancouver is a one-day, free public event that you ought to take advantage of. Have fun exploring the city and visiting one of 20 different artistic, historic and design-savvy buildings. All will be open for self-guided tours, giving you a unique, behind-the-scenes look at what goes on behind closed doors of spaces like Vancouver City Hall, The Orpheum, The Vancouver Police Department Mounted Unit, False Creek Energy Centre and many more.

Hawkers Market is taking over 188 Kingsway this Saturday with a night of food, festivities, live music and plenty of hipster-fuelled fun. They’ll feature a raucous performance by Bestie, DJ sets, beer courtesy of local 33 Acres Brewery, and plenty of tasty bites to keep you satiated until the wee hours. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.

Sunday

Get into the fall spirit and head over to Harvest Festival in West Van this Sunday.  They’ll have plenty of local vendors on site, a Farm Zone (for your animal fix), live entertainment, a beer garden, open-air marketplace, art show, scarecrow competition, and pop-up pumpkin patch to keep you occupied for the afternoon.
