America can have Thanksgiving – we’ll take the Grey Cup any day of the week.
And we’d be lying if we said this weekend wasn’t all about Sunday’s big game.
That doesn’t mean, however, that we don’t have a bevy of weekend options for you to choose from (a little something we like to call Black Friday), just know that this entire city is working its way toward a 3pm kick-off.
So put on your favourite jersey Vancouver, your weekend starts now…
Chambar is hosting a Gentlemen’s Lunch and Competition. As the 30 days of Movember wind down, there isn’t a better time to dish out the prize for Best in Mo.
If your schedule is wide open for lunchtime, join in for three-courses of the restaurant’s classics prepared by Nico Schuermans, as well as scotch pairings and some healthy competition. The dress code is dapper and the event will start at noon sharp.
The TELUS Street Festival for the 102nd Grey Cup starts today, taking over the area around Convention Centre. It’s apparently the place to be if you want to be in the middle of all the action leading up to Sunday’s big game. There will be a main stage with local musicians playing from 3pm onwards and activities for all ages. Oh, and it’s all free.
St. Paul Hospital Foundation’s annual Lights of Hope takes place tonight with their volunteers lighting up the giant display outside the Burrard Street hospital in all the festive colours of Christmas. Grab a cup of hot chocolate, grab a bite from the food trucks and watch it all come to life while the community strives to raise $2.5 million for patients in need. And be sure to stick around for the fireworks display that will blast off around 8pm.
Ok so now it’s the real deal. For those of you who didn’t get in on last week’s Black Fridays pre-sale teasers – be ready for full on mayhem.
With Christmas shopping costing an arm and a leg as always, it’s sometimes worth entering the frenzy for a deal or two. And you don’t have to go through the pain of border lineups for a bargain anymore.
Expect madness to ensue right here at every shopping center and independent boutique lasting all weekend…until Cyber Monday rolls around and you can do it all from home.
Young, career-driven professional women will unite at Glossed Up tonight to sip on sweet wines and drive like-minded conversations. The Ladies Who Lunch Mixer brings out a combination of female business leaders, those wanting to expand their network, and new entrepreneurs. Did we mention the LWL events are always Instagram-worthy? Expect a lot of pretty.
If you’d rather retreat and just enjoy a few drinks for a casual night out, pop over the Lionsgate to Cactus Club Cafe at Park Royal. Cactus always makes for a great time, but their Stache Bache party comes with a purpose – especially if you haven’t added to the efforts on raising men’s health awareness. This is your last chance to be a part of the movement this month. The DJ will start at 9pm and all gratuities from the night will be donated to the charities focused on health issues that hit below the belt. So, tip well.
The Vital Health & Wellness Fair happens monthly and the holiday market version is happening today. Stop by and take part in the Gratitude Graffiti Project – an interactive community art initiative where all passersby can write down what they are most grateful for, pick up seasonal organic treats, learn about healing (let’s face it, it can be stressful time of year), and how this can be the most nutritious Christmas yet.
Unless an allergy is involved, there isn’t a normal person out there who rejects chocolate. Today those who love the sweet stuff can rejoice at XOXOLAT. For just $10, take part in chocolate tasting, a fashion show from local designers, and some champagne. It all starts at 4pm. Dessert before dinner?
This monthly soul night makes stops in cities around the world including London, Paris, and Chicago. And it’s coming to Vancouver tonight for the first time. The World Famous Motown Party presented by the Arrival Agency will go down at the Fox Cabaret. The best DJs in our parts will play the smooth hits from Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, Jackson 5, and much more. All. Night. Long.
It’s game time. If you’re in the city, you won’t be able to avoid the Grey Cup. Catch the best of the CFL down near all the action around BC Place or choose a quieter spot (your couch doesn’t count).
Our top picks: the new Boston Pizza is a no brainer for the maximum amount of loud, in-your-face cheering. For a more laidback vibe try the Kingston not too far away from the heart of it all.
The 2014 Vancouver Urban Farming Forum, AGM & Social is taking place all day. Major movers and shakers from food policy advocates to agriculture supporters, local urban farmers to anyone genuinely interested in the future of farming, will gather at the Croatian Cultural Centre to participate in workshops and generate conversation on this important part of our community.
