Vancouver Weekender: November 15 through 17, 2013

Get your weekend rolling and head down to Yaletown for some quality grub at Good Wolfe. We recently met owner/chef Josh Wolfe and were privy to his culinary prowess – and undeniably impressed. This hot spot for cuisine and cocktails features a menu offering local, fresh and inventive dishes you will love. The place has quite the following, so you might want to book your table by contacting them in advance and save that appetite. Bonus marks: you’ll be practically right next door to The Parlour – a perfect spot to land for après drinks and great DJ beats (not to mention a little chaos and eye candy).

Kick things up a theatrical notch and be sure to catch one of the 25 or so short films that will be screening as part of the 4th Annual Vancouver Short Film Festival (takes place at Vancity Theatre). Tickets can be found here. Also making its mark this weekend is the return of one of our Notable favorites, the Eastside Culture Crawl, which brings you to the artist’s studio for some upfront inspirational conversation. With three hundred participating artists showcasing a unique, behind-the-scenes look at their creative endeavours, it’s a definite must-do.

For those of you who juggling a career and family (we know you’re out there), be sure to rise early on Saturday for some inspiration at Saturday’s mSummit Presented by the Reinventing M Network. It takes place at The Westin Bayshore in Coal Harbour and will offer attendees the chance to do some serious weekend networking with some business big-wigs (we’re talking Arlene Dickinson, Jill Earthy of CYFB, Tamara Taggert and more).

If you’re lucky and act, well, pretty much as soon as you read this, you might be able to score one of the last remaining tickets for this year’s annual Jet Set Crew James Bond Tribute Party taking place Saturday night. Always a sell-out soiree with plenty of stylish attendees (not to mention never-ending cocktails and killer canapés), it is definitely one of the city’s most buzzed-about events. The Bond Party features a stellar lineup of DJs, live performers, top-notch décor and nocturnal adventures 007 would be proud of.

If you haven’t heard the happy news yet, we’re not sure what planet you live on, really. We joke, we joke. News broke earlier this week that Whistler Mountain would be opening up nearly two weeks earlier than expected. With that, you can use this weekend to gear up and head up to the mountain (Blackcomb isn’t ready quite yet). They’ll have a multitude of chairs running, two Gondolas and plenty of powder to satisfy the fanatics – and then some. For the latest details, be sure to check out conditions and offers here.

Back in the city, we think you ought to taste a bit of the Far East and head to Chinatown. Pay a visit to Bao Bei for some share plates before heading over to the recently opened Bambudda. They’ll welcome you to a chic-stylish space with a menu loaded with authentic southern Chinese cuisine. Grab a local beer or cocktail and get ready for a big culinary night. Our cocktail of choice: The Smoking Buddha.

Wind down the weekend and catch some serious NFL action at the newly opened Vancouver CRAFT Beer Market in Olympic Village.  You’ll have no shortage of booze (140 kinds of beer are available on tap) and company (they’ve got seating for up to 400). We love the chilled atmosphere and cool design – not to mention menu offerings. Check out our take here.
