Vancouver Weekender: March 7 through 9, 2014

Friday
Start the weekend off slope-side and make your way up to check out the latest Grouse Mountain Park Jams that are in full swing. Enjoy the outdoors and plenty of powder-inspired fun as you carve your way to winning prizes, participate in contests and take in live entertainment plus plenty more.  

If you’re looking for an excuse to pull on your best party dress Friday night, the 5th Annual Face of Today Gala is the perfect excuse to do so. Taking place at the Rosewood Hotel Georgia starting at 8pm until late, this year’s gala features a punk couture theme with open bar, exclusive live and silent auction, balloon lottery and plenty more. Pop by and get a custom cocktail mixed at the Belvedere Vodka ice bar, snack on canapés and oysters, and drool over exotic cars from Miles End Motors.

Looking or something a little more low-key? Then head to the monthly Friday Night Perogie Dinner at the Ukrainian Church for some serious comfort food. This event always gets packed, takes place on the first Friday of each month, and is open to all.  Score a seat and load up your plate with delicious (and cheap!) Ukrainian food specialties. Dinner service starts at 5pm, cost is about $12.

Saturday
Winter Farmers Market takes over Nat Bailey Stadium Saturday morning at 30th and Ontario. Load up on all the fresh farm picks, grab goods from artisan vendors, and enjoy our YVR community offerings like kale, beets, baked goods and more.

Saturday, Sunday
Start planning your next big getaway and plan on attending The Outdoor Adventure Show at the Convention Centre this weekend (open Saturday through Sunday). Explore BC’s largest adventure and travel show offering pre-season deals on the newest gear and amazing travel destinations. Get the scoop on the latest trends from experts and try things out for yourself at the Whitewater Demo Pool or Bike Show. Admission is $12. Find more details here.

YPs looking for an excuse to drink green beer can rest easy knowing that the 10th Anniversary of CelticFest is ready to take Vancouver by storm starting March 8th. Gear up for a week and a half of more than 80 different activities, concerts and events (some are free, others are ticketed). 

Sunday
It’s all about the homemade baked goods this Sunday with the return of the Baker’s Market at the Moberly Arts & Cultural Centre). This community event is the perfect place to head to for fresh sweets, bread, savoury treats and more. Open all afternoon, purchase items and support budding pastry chefs, entrepreneurs and more. Bonus: they’ve got plenty of free samples to fuel your shopping. Admission is $2. 

If you’ve got room in your belly, you might want to head out to Baker’s Dozen, Vancouver’s newest baked goods market at the River District Centre (running each Sunday in March). Taste the offerings of 13 local bakers and their tasty goods featured at this picturesque locale by the river
