Vancouver Weekender: March 15 through 17, 2013

The weekend has all but arrived – and it couldn’t arrive any sooner if you ask us. Get ready for one that‘s packed with reasons to get out and explore the city. Whether you’re looking to venture over to our local mountains for a bit of outdoors action, or hoping to check out some new spots around town that have just popped up, this edition of our Notable Vancouver Weekender packs a serious punch of options to help fill your agenda

Has all this blah weather got you feeling down? Come Friday, brighten up your outlook and get things going by heading over to Pink Elephant Thai for their weekly fix: #getPINKed fandango. There is no excuse not to unwind and gear up at this hot pink spot. Reconnect with friends, unwind after a long week while sipping their killer cocktail specials and enjoying tasty Thai bites. Their resident DJ helps build and keep the vibe going until late.

After all the Thai-inspired fun, save some room in your belly and make your way over to Gastown’s Clough Club to check out their new menu of Southwestern-inspired cuisine (a must try: Ceviche y Mezcal and Queso Fresco Quinoa Fritters) and taste your way through their Whiskey-themed collection of cocktails tucked away in their ‘secret’ back room.

Come Saturday, be sure to head over to the Vancouver Winter Farmers Market to grab the best, fresh locally-produced goods.  Foodies and foodie wannabes alike will love the variety of different offerings (courtesy of more than 50 different vendors on-site). Stock up on everything from fresh oysters, salmon, coffee, kale, beauty products, homemade pie and much more. Click the link above for full vendor info and address.

Saturday afternoon we suggest you channel your inner Irish and grab some green beads, don an emerald tee, sport that leprechaun hat you’ve kept hidden all year and head out to one of the many pubs and venues around town who will be celebrating St. Paddy’s Day. On our must-visit list: Mahony & Son’s Celtic Village taking place all weekend (starts at 11am Saturday) with Doolin’s Music Stage, all the green beer you could want and plenty more.

Stroll into Sunday (it’s supposed to be sunny!) by grabbing brunch at Loden Hotel’s Tableau Bar & Bistro. It’s the perfect spot for getting cozy as you ease into the day  Peruse the weekend paper as you nosh on their delectable selection of offerings (we’re craving their classic Croque Monsieur & Frites).

Next, be sure to catch the 9th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade – it’ll be hard to miss as it winds its way throughout downtown Vancouver and along West Georgia Street. With tens of thousands of spectators and 2,000 performers expected again this year, claim your spot along the route accordingly.

If you’re up for a bit of action (here’s hoping the rain actually does subside), be sure to head over to Cypress or Seymour Mountains for some slope-side fun. Whether it’s hitting up the hills for some boarding, skiing – or perhaps tobogganing or even tubing is more your style – there’s no excuse not to get out for your fix of nature.

Looking for a bit of a trippy fix to help you unwind before the week ahead? Why not catch the first of a few special screenings of Snoop Dogg’s documentary, Reincarnated, taking place at the Rio Theatre. Having debuted at last year’s TIFF, this flick has got some buzz going on already (not that kind) as it delves into the world of Snoop – and his life-changing trek to Trench Town and consequential rechristening as ‘Snoop Lion’. If you’re a fan of his music or simply a fan of his overall fantastic-ness, this one’s worth noting.
