Vancouver Weekender: Labour Day Weekend 2011, Part II

So we’ve already tempted you with our first round of notable ideas to help make the most out of the long weekend ahead, and now it’s time for Part II of our noteworthy ideas and events that’ll help round out your YP agenda.

Feeling the need to get out and enjoy some fresh air? Why not start off your Saturday by heading across to North Vancouver’s stunning (free!) alternative to the Capilano Suspension Bridge. Check out Lynn Valley for a few hours of breathtaking hiking at Lynn Canyon. A mere 20-minute drive should have you at the head where you can steer yourself along any number of trails, or take a dip in one of several natural pools.

Experience the Pacific National Exhibition. If you haven’t been yet, this is your last chance to head over to this Vancouver summer tradition (closes September 5th). Check out over 55 different rides (including the newly opened Atmosfear) as well as other attractions, or catch a concert at this famous outdoor exhibition.

This Sunday starting at 1pm, head over to 92 Water Street to catch the third Lamplighter Public House Patio Party in Gastown and celebrate the Labour Day long weekend in style and with craft beer in hand. This third (in a summer-long series) of the parties will feature beer from the likes of R&B Brewing Co., Driftwood Brewery, Granville Island Brewery, Howe Sound Brewery, and Philips Brewery as well as goods from Central City Brewing. Sip-away and savour the sun as you groove to the beats of resident DJ Relly Rels. Be sure to RSVP here to their guest list as space is subject to capacity.

If you’re feeling like meandering out of town, consider a jaunt up to Whistler to take in their Jazz on the Mountain Festival, Canada’s newest jazz festival, on Labour Day weekend. Touted as a combination of top international and Canadian jazz artists, this festival promises to provide an intimate and picturesque setting. Featuring over 30 ticketed and free shows, this mountain-side festival is the perfect way to relish the end-of-summer.
