Thursday

Throw some culture for a cause into your mix and head to the Back Gallery Project post-work this Thursday. Located at 602 East Hastings Street, they’re set to raise funds for Billy’s Bikes Society. Stop by and enjoy food, prizes, fun and awesome DJ beats as you help raise money to send 200 bicycles to underprivileged children in Honduras. They’ll have a live auction, raffle and cash bar to sweeten the deal.  For more info click here.

Friday

The Rio Theatre is hosting a late-night screening of cinematic gem 2001: A Space Odyssey on Friday night. This Kubrick classic is definitely worth checking out as it explores humanity’s never-ending quest to understand space when a mysterious artificial object is found buried below the lunar surface. As always, score a discount if you dress in costume and grab a cold brew to go with your popcorn (they’re licensed).

The Adhoc Collective is hosting a Sizzle BBQ Rave on Friday at Studio East (1480 Frances Street). It’ll bring a full spectrum of offerings together featuring free hot dogs, full BBQ offerings, and as food truck cuisine. They’ll be celebrating summer with games, live entertainment, face and body painting and even an artificial beach to kick back on with a cold beer in hand. Dancing doesn’t stop at dusk; they’ll have a several stages featuring 28 different DJs to keep you dancing into the wee hours. Tickets are $20 and can be purchase here.

Saturday

It’s all about the Deighton Cup’s 6th Annual trackside celebrations this Saturday. Don’t delay and grab the last remaining tickets to their signature thoroughbred event ($75) and score yourself admission to one of the top parties of the season. The Honda Celebration of Light kicks off for the summer season this Saturday at English Bay. Grab a beach blanket and make your way down to English Bay’s Sunset Beach to take in the spectacle of lights. To kick off this year’s competition, the USA is set to light up the sky with a sea of colours. Sunday

VUSI Special Summer Series is back with its third daytime dance party of the summer set with DJs, dancing and entertainment. As with the previous two pop-up dance parties, the destination is different. This time, head over to Vancouver’s New Brighton Park with your picnic and beach attire. Get ready to work up a sweat dancing the day away under the sun. Things kick off at 1pm and go until 9pm. 

Food Cart Fest sets up shop every Sunday throughout the summer and is the perfect excuse to head out for an afternoon bike along the seawall to Olympic Village in False Creek. With 20 of Vancouver’s top food trucks on hand, live entertainment, a community marketplace and great opportunities to get out and mingle with new friends, who needs the couch?
