Vancouver Weekender: January 22 through January 25, 2015

You know what they say: if you can make it through January, you can expect to have some emotional scars to deal with at the beginning of February.

Hmm. Maybe “they” just shouldn’t say anything at all next time.

Unless of course, they’re saying something about the weekend.

And the jam-packed one that just happens to start right now…

THURSDAY

May your future be tight…or so their crew says.

Tight Club’s Pop-Up Week will be full of their signature Tight gear, classes, and even some top-notch athletic consignment. For everyone wondering what Tight Club is all about, this is the time to find out. Tonight, we suggest joining in on their incubator run. The shortest of all their run club options, it’s a sure fire way to get a great (but not intimidating) workout.

The Vancouver International Boat Show starts today. Whether you’re in the market for a boat or just love spending sunny days on one, the Vancouver International Boat Show will have all kinds of water toys to marvel over.

Being held at a private residence in West Vancouver, Team Trudeau is holding a House Meeting. RSVPs are necessary. A Team Trudeau Community Member and other members of Team Trudeau will be on hand to discuss creating a better Canada and how you can be involved.

FRIDAY

We would say Taboo is for the open-minded. So if you’re a prude in a regular situation, it might be best to avoid spending your night at The Taboo Naughty But Nice Sex Show. With talks, vendors showing off the latest products, and demonstrations, there’s tons to do, try, and see for those looking for a little adventure.

If you’re on top of pop culture, you’ll know this girl has been named the ‘Rapper To Watch in 2015’. Hailing from Chicago, Tink is performing at Fortune Sound Club tonight. Catching up and coming musical acts before they become mainstream is always the best way to experience an artist up close and personal. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

SATURDAY

All the biggest and best tech companies will converge today at the Rocky Mountaineer Station. HTML 500 is a one-day event where talent and talent seekers will meet. Attendees will have the chance to learn code from the best in the business. Oh, and potentially land their next major gig in the process.

Author and positive life activist, Danielle LaPorte is holding her Desire Map Workshop today from 9am-5pm in Vancouver and about 12 other cities throughout North America. The Vancouver edition will be led by Urszula Lipszstajn and take you on a journey that helps you to recognize your core feelings and live with a healthier mindset.

Soft Peaks in Gastown is now serving up their organic soft-serve on specific days. There have been line-ups around the block with customers waiting to try.

Meanwhile, Earnest Ice Cream opened the doors to their new location on the edge of False Creek.

SUNDAY

It’s the last day of Street Food City.

Until 5pm, more than 25 food trucks can be found on the north plaza at the Vancouver Art Gallery. From live music and rain tents, the event organizers have thought of everything to make sure you can enjoy the best from Jonnys Crème Brulee, Roaming Dragon, Yolks, and many more.

With a large number of Aussies inhabiting our fine city (and our sister snow town, Whistler), expect many local bars to be full of accents pre-celebrating Australia Day.

Moose’s Down Under might be one spot taking the celebrations to another level and carrying over to Monday. Australia Day-goers say Moose’s Down Under is packed every year.

A bar full of Aussie babes doesn’t sound like a bad way to end your weekend…
