Vancouver Weekender: February 21 through 23, 2014

Thursday, Friday

CBC Toque Sessions‘ series of free concerts continue to take place at the end of each week and are a great way to learn about upcoming musical acts. Now celebrating its 5th year showcasing some of the city’s top talent, start the weekend off right by catching Vancouver-based Said the Whale as they unveil new songs (done with a special electronic remix twist).

An Intimate evening with Adam Guettel awaits any young professional interested in catching a Tony Award-winning composer in an intimate venue (the Revue Stage on Granville Island). Check out Mr. Guettel alongside Jonathan Monro (Musical Director of Floyd Collins) for a night of insightful discussion and creative exploration while gaining insight into the world of musicals. An intimate reception guarantees plenty of opportunity to squeeze in a bit of networking (held at a different venue). Learn more here.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday

This weekend marks the return of the BC Home + Garden Show. Head down to BC Place Stadium and peruse plenty of décor options. This popular show is the place for young professionals to head to this weekend if in search of some style-savvy inspiration for their abode. With plenty of vendors on-site (we’re talking well over 400 of them), professionals taking the stage and a score of seminars to check out, you definitely don’t want to miss it.

Get crafty and use this weekend to escape the city for the PoMo ArtsFest. Celebrating all styles of artistic expression, this weekend-long festival features slam poetry performances, a grand gala opening party, world jazz performance, special one-day art sale (Art to Go) and plenty more offerings.

Eat Your Heart Out Dining Series beckons city-dwellers to taste their way around the Tri-Cities for a great cause. A handful of restaurants are pitching in with exclusive three-course dinners all priced at $35 with a percentage of proceeds going back to Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation. Select from Browns Social House, The Boathouse Restaurant, Saint St. Grill and more. Review participating restaurant menus and reserve here.

Get artistically inspired at Ballet BC’s Grace Symmetry series of performances taking place this weekend at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. Choreographed by Kevin O’Day, intimate and sophisticated understanding of music and movement coupled with his creative spirit inspires daring, risk-taking dance that complements the innovative style and vision of both Turning Point Ensemble and Ballet BC.
