Vancouver Weekender: December 28 to 30, 2012

This weekender comes loaded with reasons for Notable YP’s to shrug off the turkey-coma and squeeze in a little outdoors-y fun while adding a bit of pre-New Year festivities to the mix.

If you’re one of the unfortunate few who weren’t able to score an entire week off work – we’re notably sorry… so come Friday at 5 o’clock, we’re betting you’ll be more than ready to exit the office for continued holiday fun.

Ditch kitchen-duty on Friday night and head to Pink Elephant Thai for a bit of pre-New Year’s fun accompanied by tasty Thai bites.  They’re celebrating on the early side (event starts at 7PM) with resident DJ: NoLuv spinning from the mezzanine level.   Bring your appetite; they’ll have plenty of appetizers on offer, coupled with signature drink specials to keep the PINK’ed party going.

Come Saturday, get things rolling with a bit of brunch at Le Parisian or check out the recently opened, The Pie Shoppe for a cup of their freshly roasted and brewed Panoramic Coffee and sweet snack.

If you haven’t already had a chance to take in one of the following seasonal displays around town, be sure to do so this weekend – before it’s literally ‘lights out’ until next year.  On our to-do list: a visit to the Van Dusen Garden’s Festival of Lights and Capilano Suspension Bridge for their ‘Canyon Lights’ display.  Both are must-see spectacles featuring tens of thousands of lights and guaranteed festive fun.

Looking for a NYE warm-up party on Saturday night? Head to one of our Notable favourite’s in town: Electric Owl (928 Main Street) and check out the Party Monsters Ball.  Catch a little burlesque action courtesy of Little Miss Risk and Voracious V while getting groovy to in-house beats from DJs R-Lex, Contrasoma, Vortex and more.

Start things off Sunday with a quick fuel-up at local favourite: Savary Island Pie Company in West Vancouver where they serve some of the best baked goods around (we love their selection of scones and muffins, not to mention Cinnamon buns).  Grab yours to go before heading out to the local mountains for a day fuelled by fresh air and powder runs.  The weather forecast is calling for slightly mild and rainy weather in the city (no surprise here), but that usually translates to snow up at Cypress and Seymour Mountains respectively.

Whether it’s downhill or Nordic-style skiing you’re after; both offer up a plethora of runs and trails to suit all levels.  If you’re not into skiing, hit up the tube and toboggan parks for a bit of wintery thrills instead.

On Sunday night, if you can score a few of the remaining tickets, be sure to catch The Last Social Dinner of 2012 (The Endless Meal Supper Club) set to take place starting at 8PM (venue TBA).  We love this social networking concept that involves a bit of mystery.  As with all The Endless Meal events, diners don’t know where they’ll be eating until just prior to the event – one thing is for sure in advance: plenty of great laughs and incredible food are on the menu.  BYOB and prepare yourself for an extra special evening.
