Vancouver Weekender: August 28 through 31, 2014

Thursday

This might not appeal to everyone out there, but it should definitely pique the interest of any notable fashionistas. Aritzia is hosting their epic warehouse sale starting this Thursday at 7am, which lasts throughout the weekend. It’s now so big that they’ve shifted it to the Vancouver Convention Centre (if that is an indication of what you can expect). Details here

Friday

If you’re into it, Critical Mass is taking place this Friday after work. Join thousands of other likeminded riders and make a (somewhat) annoying statement as you ride your way through rush hour. Meet for the mass departure at the Vancouver Art Gallery downtown and ride through the city to pretty much bring traffic to a complete stop. Oh, and if you’re interested, they’ve got a Naked Midnight Ride scheduled for Saturday too.

Sunset Beach Social will help you get your long weekend off to a guaranteed great start. Ditch the suit and tie and head down to English Bay for some serious R&R courtesy of the Arrival Agency. Watch out for the Roving Mariachi Band, peruse the art market, take in the competition at the ping-pong tournament, and lace up some free roller skates as part of the Outdoor Roller Disco.

Saturday

There’s a Mad Hatter Tea Party being hosted at Hawksworth Restaurant on Saturday, the perfect thing to do if we end up with a bit of rain over the weekend. It’s also the perfect excuse to pop into that summer party dress and grab a bunch of friends. All proceeds will be donated to Canadian Feed the Children, an organization committed to creating a world where children thrive free from poverty.

Sunday

The Victory Square Block Party is happening all day Sunday and is guaranteed to land you in the middle of a whole lot of fun.  Look for local acts like Dead Soft, The Shilohs, Cool, Purple Hearts Social Club, Supermoon, Nervous Talk, Fountain and Tough Age to take the stage through out the day. In between sets catch Cherchez La Femme and Richard MacFarlane heating up the tables.   They’ll also feature plenty of local vendors selling goods as well as food trucks to keep your appetite at bay.

The Giant Open Air Boot Sale and Market is teaming up with the Food Cart Fest at Olympic Village this Sunday and is definitely worth factoring into your plans. The double-bill event brings together three of our favorite things: local artisans, food and things on sale (who can resist?). Seriously, though, you need to get off the couch or away from the beach for this one given it is the absolute last Food Cart Fest event of the summer. Find more details about the market here and food fest info here.
