Vancouver Restaurant Radar

Every once in a while we like to take note of up and coming spots set to open around town…on our Notable radar this week is news of several recent and upcoming openings around YVR.

Coming soon:

We recently got word that the ownership behind La Quercia restaurant will be taking up residence at Vancouver’s Opus Hotel come early September 2012.

We’ve long been a fan of the original Kitsilano-based location (previously voted the number one in Best Italian Restaurant category), and are thrilled to learn that the collective talents of both Lucais Syme and Adam Pegg will merge with the original La Quercia team to produce authentic, Northern Italian dishes at this hip Yaletown location (yet to be named).

Beyond development of the restaurant menu, there will be a complete overhaul of the food and beverage program (both at Opus Bar and within the hotel). We can’t wait to learn more about what sort of Italian-style twists this development will afford.

Also making it onto our radar comes news that a little bit of Sol will be setting up shop at the former Crime Lab location in Coal Harbour. We noted that the team behind the successful (and famed) BIN 941 and Go Fish! Restaurants are taking over. Well-known restaurant veteran and personality Gord Martin is bringing his knack for tapas fare to the foot of Denman in Coal Harbour and will be working on Mediterranean cuisine to fit the bill.

With its spacious, waterfront location and proximity to the Seawall and several surrounding hotels and marinas, we’re thinking snack-style tapas was just what this spot needed; pair that up with an easy-going and approachable wine list, great cocktails and relaxed atmosphere and we’re predicting a winner. Signage currently indicates Vancouver notables can expect an August 2012 open date.

So we’ve outlined a few spots that are set to open in the coming months – how about a little update on a noteworthy spot you can actually hit up for a glass of wine and bite to eat?

Head over to Pier 7 Restaurant + Bar at 25 Wallace Mews in North Vancouver for a foodie treat. Owned by the same people behind the recently opened Hotel at the Pier, this space is seriously stunning and unique to the North Shore, offering expansive coastal views, mouth-watering menu items and a refreshingly good cocktail list. Tack on the fact that they serve a fantastic, locally-sourced weekend brunch and there’s simply no excuse not to check it out.
