Vancouver Celebrates Inaugural Fashion’s Night Out in Style

YVR celebrated alongside top fashion-savvy cities around the world as part of our first-ever Fashion’s Night Out event, giving us an opportunity to flex our fashion muscles. This global celebration began four years ago in NYC to help stimulate the economy and has since blossomed into an energetic evening that brings fashion lovers together to mix, mingle and shop…not to mention that it provides a great opportunity for young professionals to update their fall wardrobe.

Though there were numerous VIP and private events taking place around town (we popped by Secret Locations for a bit), the three-part evening truly kicked off in style with a free fashion show at CBC Studios that saw an audience of more than 500 well dressed in attendance. With each aspect of FNO open to the public, this show helped knit together an energetic mass of aspiring fashion students, industry professionals and notable influencers that made for a great night.

Lights down, music up, and the runway came alive with local talent as the show kicked off with renowned Vancouver designer Jason Matlo’s Babe line (the first time this collection has hit the runway). More designers and local retailers, including Wear Else and Pilar’s Styling Boutique, showed off elegant fall styles before the show wrapped up with two collections from Jacqueline Conoir

The close of the show kicked off the most important part of the evening: shopping, with more than 30 retailers opening their doors to help celebrate FNO. We made our way over to Robson and Alberni to check out a few participating boutiques on board (including Tiffany, French Connection, Banana Republic and more).  Stores were bustling with people perusing the latest styles as music played, cocktails were served and canapés were savoured.

Shoppers had one last chance to reunite after their respective retail adventures at an official after party that took place at the newly re-designed Bar None in Yaletown, which provided the perfect setting to gear up our shop-savvy celebrations (and compare finds with friends). Needless to say, the morning after Fashion’s Night Out brings with it its own brand of hangover, though you can take comfort in the fact that you’re waking up just a little more stylish.
