Tying One On for Prostate Cancer

Covering the event beat for a while now, we get to see over and over how great events are the result of great partnerships – we’re talking ones which make the premium open bar, delectable food items, rocking DJ, and coveted auction items all conspire to draw a hot crowd of the city’s young and connected movers and shakers, and stand out on an overcharged social agenda.

This was on full display last week as prominent Old Montreal restaurant/hotel banner, the Antonopoulos Group, and Quebec-based PROCURE, got together to host an exclusive fundraiser at the Group’s well-noted Nelligan Hotel.

Billed as ‘The Bow Tie Affair,’ you could say this was THE Movember party of the year as 300 strong of the city’s suave and sexy young professionals took to the saying ‘blue is for boys’ and donned their fashion neckwear to come out and raise $50,000 for the province’s only charity dedicated solely to prostate cancer, specifically its early detection, which we’re told translates into a cure rate of 96%.

But enough shop talk, as this evening was all about curing the November doldrums, and the hotel’s main ballroom transformed into a buzzing party pad was just what the doctor ordered.

In keeping with the cause’s official colour, a blue carpet welcomed guests to a large four-sided bar sponsored by premium alcohol brands Grey Goose vodka and Carnivor wines, perfect for guys and gals to mingle. After breaking the ice, most made their way around the perimeter of the room where restaurants from the Group’s roster set up tasting tables which featured specialty items from each.

The ubiquitous silent auction was again in force with more than a few desired items that I could easily picture (correction, wanted!) under my Christmas tree. This time, some ‘notable’ experience came through with strategic bidding. The result? A complete LAB Series skincare gift basket courtesy of Holt Renfrew – you know, to combat the signs of the long days and longer nights the YP lifestyle demands.
