Toronto’s Most Notable Beer Lists

Toronto is riddled with bars and restos that have amazing food but subpar beer lists. And with the growing trend towards mixology-laden cocktail offerings, beer drinkers are starting to feel a little left out. Well, lovers of ales, lagers, pilsners, IPAs, strong beers, ciders, and the like rejoice: There are still a few great spots that have more than the average domestic brews so often seen taking 30-second spots during Hockey Night in Canada. Here’s the list of our notable faves…

Bar Volo587 Yonge Street
Bar Volo has been around for years but is often forgotten by the YPs of the city. With a large selection of premium domestic pints and bottles, and some damned good grub to boot, be sure to hit this central spot up next you’re looking for a Dieu du Ciel.

C’est What67 Front Street East
C’est What? Good beer, that’s what. (#LameWeKnow.) C’est What has great rotating offerings of brews from Ontario that come and go with the seasons. It’s a dingy little spot, sure, but that’s what makes it all the more a hidden gem.

Beer Bistro – 18 King Street East
With over 15 beers on draught, about another 95 bottles or cans to choose from, and even a ‘rare beer’ cellar, Beer Bistro is a must-go for any beer lover. It’s a power spot too, so expect to rub elbows with some of Bay Street’s powerful players. FYI, the beer broth steamed mussels are fantastic.

Bier MarktVarious locations
We couldn’t do a rundown of the best beer lists without mentioning YP staple Bier Markt. The King Street location caters to a slightly older crowd than the Esplanade establishment, so this is where we go for our Delirium Tremens. The food’s high-end comfort fare too, so it makes for a great experience as a whole.

Allen’s on the Danforth143 Danforth Avenue
Allen’s is another staple that’s been here for years. The steaks are great, sure, but there are over 100 beers here to wash the red meat down, and that’s the real story. Allen’s is a higher-end Irish pub/saloon, and this is reflected from the cultivation of the extensive beer list to the fantastic dinner menu.
