Toronto’s Iconic Molson Amphitheatre Will Be Renamed ‘Budweiser Stage’

Some in Toronto still feel a mild shudder every time their beloved SkyDome is referred to the Rogers Centre, it’s official name.

They’re about to be subject to a new dose of pain as the iconic Molson Canadian Amphitheatre will from now on be the Budweiser Stage.

More than just a name change, Budweiser beer will also replace Molson Canadian in the kegs.

Honestly, it kind of sucks – and it has nothing to do with the brew.

The Molson Canadian Amphitheatre is more than a stage, just like the Rogers Centre is more than a centre. We should celebrate its architectural uniqueness instead of watering it down. Ah, there’s the beer joke.

The Amphitheatre was also cool because it had Canadian in it. Now, its namesake is brashly American.

In addition to changing the name, Labatt Breweries of Canada and Live Nation Canada – who took over sponsorship after Molson’s expired last year – will add concession locations, expand cashless payment options, and allow fans to arrive at the venue earlier than usual.

We stand steadfast in forever calling it the Amphitheatre.
