And the winner is…
This place, originally by the hand of Buffalo-native Francis Deck, opened its first location at Yonge and St. Clair with only 10 stools. Then in the 1940s they brought us the world’s first Banquet Burger, eventually sprouted up 5 more locations around the city, and now has lasted the test of time to earn your vote as Toronto’s best diner with a tuna-melting 62.6% of the votes.
They have two convenient locations (out of five) open 24 hours a day, all-day breakfast, the classic diner staples, and then everything else from wraps to paninis to burgers to pasta and ribs. Whether it’s an 8am breakfast or a 3am snack, Toronto spoke loud and clear on this one: Fran’s is the man.
Surprisingly (well behind) in second place was the trendy TV-and-movie-star Lakeview Restaurant at Dundas and Ossington taking in nearly one-in-five votes with about 18%, but significantly ahead of the bronze medallist, George Street Diner, which only pulled about 5% of the votes. Fourth-place Flo’s wasn’t too far off the podium, though.
Below you’ll find a pancake graph that breaks down all the votes. Take a look, and if you disagree with what you see, let us know in the comment section. Or, next time, don’t waffle around when you should be voting…
