Toronto Weekender: October 3 through 6, 2013

Another day, another dollar? Nah… another weekend, another (read: many) chances to get your drink on. Here’s what’s happenin’ around town…

Thursday
AGO First Thursdays is on, naturally. This edition is particularly awesome thanks to the fact that the Ai WeiWei exhibit is part of the night. Plus, you’ll get a sneak peek at some of the awesomeness that is Saturday night’s Nuit Blanche.

Uber-cool artiste Jessica Gorlicky, aka JessGo, is debuting Saturday Morning, a blast from the past of epic proportions. She’s basically taken all our fave old-school shows and artified them for the 21st century. Not a bad way to reminisce about days gone by.

Friday
Spice it up with Salt n’ Pepa on Friday at Three to Be’s annual Stems of Hope Gala. Help support research, education, and therapies for children with neurological disorders while mixing and mingling in early ’90s fashion at this excellent event.

Cheers with beers Friday night over at Amsterdam BrewHouse as part of their Oktoberfest celebrations, on through October 10th. Three special Oktoberfest-style beers will be brewed for the occasion, alongside a menu of Bavarian bites.

Saturday
It’s finally here. Nuit Blanche takes over the city Saturday night, offering up dozens of art installations all over the downtown core. This year, be sure to keep your eyes open for the Rest Areas, which will see food trucks aplenty on hand to refuel you as you reach the midway mark in the stretch of night.

During the greatness that is Nuit Blanche, Drambuie will be mixing up some pretty rad cocktails over at the Stephen Bulger Gallery. Enjoy the surreal world of Toronto artist Leeay Aikawa while sipping on complimentary cocktails during this one-night-only pop-up.

Sunday
Join Fresh City over at Downsview Park this Sunday for the uber-local Harvest Festival. Celebrate the changing of the seasons and the bundles of amazing produce and local goods available this time of year. Think beer from Indie Ale House, pumpkin pies from Cookie Martinez, savoury rolls from Nice Buns Bakery, and the list goes on.

Get your shop on during the last day of the Drake General Store’s Warehouse Sale. This ever-popular quarterly event sees discounts upwards of 70% on the Drake’s coolest products. New and vintage apparel and merch will be on display… question is, will it still be there in time for you to pull out the plastics.
