Toronto Weekender: October 2 through 5, 2014

People are going to tell you it’s time to settle in.

Hunker down.
Get cozy.

Well, to them we have just one response: NUIT freakin’ BLANCHE.

Yes, we have 25 other events for you to get up to this weekend, but we’d be lying if we didn’t admit that the white night is the reason you should reject the temptation to give in to an October Netflix binge.

So get out and get wild, the weekend is officially here.

Thursday

Just three days of beer, lederhosen, and German-inspired food with free admission.

Inspired by the opulence, luxury, and sex appeal of the five-star luxury Trump Hotel Toronto, the all-new America Restaurant officially opens its doors on the 31st floor. Expect the ultimate in entertainment from this stylish supper club on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings.

Have some thoughts on global citizenship? Go here.

Banaz: A Love Story is a 2012 documentary film by Deeyah Khan that chronicles an act of overwhelming horror – the honour killing of Banaz Mahmod, a young British woman in suburban London in 2006, killed and “disappeared” by her own family. This is definitely a screening you should see.

According to this guy, you can have free burgers and beer at Parts & Labour tonight.

Everyone loves a reunion, and the Constantines are certainly milking this one for all it’s worth. They’ve played a few times in Toronto already this summer, but if you missed them (or just want to see them again) they’re back for another two-night stand, this time at the Danforth.

Not every tribute concert deserves a mention, but one for Johnny Cash at The Horseshoe sure does.

A Swedish pop star is hitting the stage at The Phoenix. Stay high.

First Thursday’s at the AGO are never a bad choice to kick your weekend off right.

Friday

The Toronto Bridal Show is back. Let the dress wars begin.

There’s a Psychic Fair taking place over the weekend. But they already knew that, didn’t they?

It’s the LetsStopAIDS 10th Anniversary Celebration. No joke, get out and support a good cause.

A 30,000-square foot Festhalle “Big Top” tent and a massive outdoor biergarten. This is Toronto Oktoberfest

This is the first night you can head to Canada’s Wonderland to have the crap scared out of you without even going on a ride.

The Pancake & Booze Art Show is happening. Yes, there will be all-you-can-eat pancakes.

David Suzuki will be at Massey Hall with a bunch of other super smart people telling us how we really (like, really) need to start making some positive environmental decisions.

Beach House is playing two sold out shows at Lee’s Palace tonight and tomorrow. If you can somehow get a ticket, we suspect seeing a band this big in such a small space will be a concert to remember.

Saturday

Spend your day cruising with Greenpeace for a good cause.

Smoke’s Poutinerie is hosting the World Poutine Eating Championship at Yonge-Dundas Square. Enter your gravy train joke here.

Trinity Bellwoods Blackparty x Nuit Blanche brings designers, artists, and vintage dealers together with delicious food and drinks. Not to mention music from some local Toronto DJs.

Only a little something called NUIT BLANCHE. We don’t know about you, but we’ve been waiting all year for this all-nighter. Check out your survival guide here.

Three different Oktoberfest parties in three days? Sounds good to us too. This time you’ll be heading to the Mill Street Brewery for some Bavarian fun.

Perfume Genius is here to captivate every last soul in the house, for every last minute of the night. Sounds intimate.

Want to get nostalgic instead? Catch 54-40 and have this song stuck in your head for days.

Sunday

Take a backstage tour of one of Toronto’s most beautiful buildings: The Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts.

It’s a full weekend of Suzuki – today you can join him on his Homegrown Park Crawl

It’s the CIBC Run for the Cure. There’s a 5K and a 1K option. 1K! You now officially have no reason not to go. We’ve walked through malls longer than that.

What do you get when you pair a New Kid on the Block with a Backstreet Boy? We don’t know, but we assume it’s terrible. Or maybe, just maybe, the funniest way you could choose to end your weekend.

Well, that’s it, that’s all.
Four days and more than 25 ways to spend them.

Just remember: FOMO isn’t real if you’re there.

Stay Notable,

The Weekender
