Toronto Weekender: October 17 through 20, 2013

It’s Thursday, y’all know the drill. Here’s what’s hot in the T.Dot this weekend…

Thursday
Kicking off tonight is nine nights of horror. The Toronto After Dark Film Festival showcases some of the greatest new scary flicks of our time. This film festival goes beyond the standard fare and serves up helpings of chills, all leading up to Halloween.

Tonight is the night: one of the city’s longest-running YP-organized charity events, ReThink Breast Cancer’s Boobyball, takes place at Sound Academy.

If you’re not all Oktoberfest-ed out after the past couple weeks, Mill Street Brew Hall has their Oktoberfest Party going down tonight. Live music, beer from Mill Street and nine other craft brewers, souvenir beer steins, bratwurst sliders, and the list goes on for the festive accoutrements at this German-inspired soiree.

Friday
The Design Exchange’s annual gala, Intersection, is back for 2013. On Friday night at the DX, get ready to go to MARKET, this year’s theme for the event. The evening starts with a VIP Dinner Experience before the party kicks off, with a Night Market, Street Market, live music and entertainment, and more.

It’s a randomly awesome music night for audiophiles this Friday. The Weeknd will be in the city for three straight nights at Massey Hall, Austra and special guests will be grooving over at Phoenix Theatre, Chvrches (also with special guests) will be over at Danforth Music Hall, Laura Mvula‘s taking to the stage at The Mod Club, Saves the Day will be at The Hoxton, and Gauntlet Hair‘s takin’ over Drake Underground.

Saturday
On Saturday night, get ready to experience a new level of Toronto nightlife. Cabin is set to host its grand opening, inviting you in the doors for an evening of design, music, and style. The new space is gearing up to present us with a heightened sense of the nightlife scene, a going-out 2.0, if you will. Will you…?

Over 230 casks from 124 breweries will be showcased at Cask Days at Brick Works this weekend. This massive beer lovers’ wet dream is like the Academy Awards for craft beer… except, y’know… no awards, no speeches, no glitz and glam. Just a coming together of all the A-lister breweries pouring nothing but award-worthy brews.

Oh! And Sisqo’s performing Saturday night. So if you’re looking to relive the glory days of youth, you should probably go. Wear a thong.

Sunday
Ready for a day of wonder, excitement, adventure and shopping? Then you’ll want to hit up Artisans of the Metropolis, a sales event that brings together the most interesting vendors, artists and artisans with a vintage, unique or industrial twist. It’ll feel like you’re stepping through the past and into a world filled with the most remarkable commodities. Think of it as The Artisans’ Bazaar!

Another Art Galleria Expo is going down Sunday night, this time at Product Nightclub. Live music, tons of original artworks up for grabs, and hundreds of bouncin’ peeps make the Art Galleria Expo a must-check-out event this weekend.
