Toronto Weekender: November 7 through 10, 2013

We’re poised for the holiday season to begin, but until then we’re soaking in as much of the city as we can. Check out what’s on our social radar – and should be on yours as well – this weekend

Thursday
A new taqueria named Estrella just came onto the Toronto scene, bringing the taco craze up to North York. Tonight, they’re debuting their fare at a Grand Opening Party for the masses to try. With six uber-tasty sounding tacos on the menu, alongside a host of other Mexican goods, this is one intro you don’t want to miss.

Over at The Opera House tonight, help raise funds for The Big Picture Project and The Sirua Aulo Academy in Kenya at a VIP Benefit Concert. The show features performances by Jesse Labelle, Vita Chambers, Jerzee, The Little Black Dress, Tyler Shaw and more.

Friday
For those who love the Financial District hotspot REDS Wine Tavern, you’ve now another location to tempt your tastebuds. REDS Midtown Tavern opened up recently, surprisingly not technically in Midtown. No, the new REDS is found at the corner of Yonge and Gerrard. Expect the same great dining experience you’re used with a few “midtown” twists (aka your Friday night starting point).

It’s time to shove cancer where the sun don’t shine at the latest edition of Fuck Cancer, going down at Cinema Nightclub on Friday. This event seeks to raise awareness and help fund a slew of different cancers’ research through amiable partying. Snatch up a shirt coloured to reflect a cancer that you’re supporting and groove out with a whackload of other YPs aching to go Fuck Cancer.

Saturday
Now this is just plain cool. In our brand-centric world, it can be difficult to stand out from the pack. Nespresso’s done a brilliant job with the new 14,000 sq. ft. Nespresso Boutique Bar found in Yorkville. Plush seating, an airy space, and, naturally, Nespresso beverages are all part and parcel, with a cafe serving up some French delights. Try it out as a new Saturday morning spot for your crew.

It’s time for another instalment of the Toronto Indie Arts Market over at The Gladstone Hotel. This pre-holiday edition might just be the perfect spot for you to find that uber-cool, one-of-a-kind gift for the hard-to-shop-for peeps on your list. Or… you know… just something new and uber cool for yourself!

After a summer of qualifying, competitors from across the globe are competing to see how they stack up against the world of Red Bull Thre3Style here in Toronto at the World DJ Championships. The World Finals have been going down this week, and Saturday night marks the grand finale.

Sunday
It’s back in the city, and we actually couldn’t be more excited. Yes, the National Ballet of Canada’s rendition of Swan Lake launches this weekend, and is here but a short while. If you’ve never seen this show live, then you’d best snatch up tix as they’re going fast. Check out the matinee showing on Sunday.

Get ready for an epic meal Sunday night over at the ACC’s Hot Stove Club as ‘Youngblood’ – part of Death Row Meals – is set to tantalize and delight. Featuring seven chefs crafting a multitude of delectable courses, this pop-up dinner series is sure to blow your mind, and tastebuds, outta the arena.
