Toronto Weekender: November 6 through 9, 2014

We’re officially in the home stretch.

That quiet period between Halloween and Christmas when no one’s ready to hear carols but it’s also too cold to spend your entire weekend outside.

Don’t worry, though, ‘cause we’re here to kick these November doldrums to the curb with more than 25 hot ways you can spend the next four days.

The weekend starts now, Toronto.

Thursday
Guess what? It’s not just any Thursday, it’s First Thursdays at the AGO.

Cosmos & Cocktails matches an astronomer with a mixologist. Or, basically, you when you’re drunk.

A new production of Macbeth starts today. It will be playing tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow.

The Dark Comedy Fest ends its run this weekend. Last chance to laugh in low light.

The 18th Annual Reel Asian Film Festival starts its 10-day run. And yes, Cosplay is (obviously) an option.

The Last Show at the Elmo is your (surprise, surprise) last chance to catch a show in the iconic venue. All ticket funds will be going to The Light of Day Parkinson’s research fund.

Mobb Deep is on their 20th anniversary tour. And now you feel old.

2014 Polaris Prize winner Tanya Tagaq will be doing her version of singing at The Great Hall.

The 15th Annual Environmental Film Festival is on for the next three days. If you like the planet you live on you’ll probably like one of the films here.

If you’re looking for a love that’s better than ice cream, we’ve got a remedy for that. Sarah Mclachlan will be at Massey Hall for the next two nights.

Friday
It’s here: The Royal Winter Fair has every agricultural angle covered. Even the ones you didn’t know about.

The National Women’s Show is exactly what it sounds like. If you’re a woman and you like things (think: travel, food and wine, fashion, beauty and wellness), we promise they’re all here.

The best party in the city is back with ROM Friday Night Live. This week’s theme: Dinos, Dodos, & Disco: Extinction. Which is exactly how we suspect you’re going to feel on Saturday morning.

One of our own discusses one of his own. Check out a film screening of The Captive with Director Atom Egoyan.

When you’re now 4-1, you’re the best hope this country has of making the playoffs and you definitely get a shout-out in The Weekender. The Raptors take on the also-hot Washington Wizards.

It’s a media battle…of the bands?

A Tribe Called Red will be spinning their electro hip-hop beats on the Danforth. And will follow up at their after-party at The Hoxton. Double parties are the best parties.

Saturday
For our young professional readers busy carting around future young professionals, the BabyTime Show might make for a nice little Saturday.

The 21st annual festival of smalls is exactly where you want to buy your original art this year.

Veg Heads Autumn Gala is your favourite place not to eat meat.

If you’ve never heard of Manon, that’s because it’s a ballet and you need to get cultured.

Speaking of getting cultured, Vivaldi at The Four Seasons, anyone?

There is a CHOCOLATE DINNER tonight. We don’t even know what that means but we’re pretty excited about it.

The 4th Annual Big Smoke Fest is all about local craft beer and independent music. Sounds reasonable.

The 5th Annual Canadian Beatbox Championships is exactly what it sounds like – except, you know, with a little more of this.

Sunday
Toronto’s Gluten Free Pop-Up Shop is taking over Wynchwood Barns. This is where you go on Sundays to get your bread that isn’t bread.

You might think you don’t know who Daniel Lanois is but we promise you do. The legendary Canadian record producer and songwriter has worked with Neil Young, Bob Dylan, and Emmylou Harris, just to name a few. And now you can spend your Sunday night seeing him perform live.

Well, that’s it, that’s all.
Four days and more than 25 ways to spend them.

Just remember: FOMO isn’t real if you’re there.

Stay Notable,
