Toronto Weekender: November 21 through 24, 2013

We’re almost done November – and Movember too – so we’ve more than a few notable events for you to check out this weekend. Get your social calendars out – there’s more than enough to fill it

Thursday
At Tryst Nightclub tonight you’ll find the annual AdClub holiday shindig, this year themed La Dolce Vita. Each ticket to this wicked event includes two complimentary drinks, delicious Italian antipasto, homemade delicacies, as well as Nonna’s famous desserts! We’re not sure whose Nonna… but we’ll take ’em anyway.

Over at Analogue Gallery, get ready to toast to the Bowster. Yes, the Bowie Ball is a grand celebration of the AGO’s David Bowie is… exhibit, though special portraits of Bowie by some renowned photographers will be unveiled at this gallery during the event. Also part and parcel is a photobooth and bowie-style face painting to really get you in the spirit.

Friday
A second Rakia Bar has opened up, this time in the Annex area. The new location follows in similar suit to the first: delectable Eastern European fare alongside a slew of tasty rakia (the namesake liquor). Expect an intriguing take on the night out at this second location, now open for business. Check it out for dinner on Friday night.

From Thursday through Sunday at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, get ready for a manly melee with the inaugural Gentlemen’s Expo. This sort-of trade show focuses on all things dudes: fashion, food, drinks, grooming, and the list goes on. Celebrity chefs, a world record attempt for most moustached men in a single spot, and workshops aplenty round out this amazing new event.

Speaking of moustached men, the annual Rock n’ Mo fundraiser is on Friday night at Andrew Richard Designs. This year’s Rock n’ Mo will feature a silent auction, raffle prizes, food and drink sampling stations, live music, moustache photo creations and more hairy surprises.

Saturday
On Spadina just south of Dundas you’ll now find an American Apparel Factory Outlet. What’s in store (at up to 90% off, might we add)? Direct from LA samples, one of a kind garments, endearing imperfect pieces, iconic styles from the past, over-runs and over-dyes, off sizes, vintage pieces and so much more. Check it out before you head to the mall this weekend.

Running Thursday through Sunday, the Whole Life Expo at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre will show you how to live a naturally healthy and green life. Canada’s largest showcase of natural health, alternative medicine, and eco-friendly lifestyles, the Whole Life Expo has over 200 exhibitors and 75 speakers.

Sunday
Foodies, take note! On Sunday you’re in for a down n’ dirty experience like none other as Momofuku Noodle Bar and The Gabardine join forces for a family-style feast of epically fried proportions. You’ll be able to taste two whole fried chickens – one prepared by each kitchen team – amongst a slew of other crossover eats. The dinner takes place at Momofuku Noodle Bar.

The biggest Filipino stars in Canada will take to the stage Sunday night at the Royal York for the Canada for Philippines Benefit Concert, in partnership with Kol Hope Foundation for Children. This event seeks to raise funds and give hope to the millions of people who were affected by Typhoon Haiyan, in support of World Vision’s Philippines Disaster Relief Fund. A noteworthy way to end your weekend if we do say so ourselves.
