Parts of Toronto Subway Will Shut Down Several Weekends Every Month Until 2017

The TTC has released a new schedule… of repairs and closures.

Citing the need for maintenance, sections of Toronto’s subway lines will be closed for at least one weekend – and up to every weekend – of each month from March until the end of the year.

The closures will affect Line 1 (Yonge-University-Spadina), Line 2 (Bloor-Danforth), and Line 3 (Scarborough RT), so all of them except the five-station Sheppard Line, which turns 14 years old in November.

“While the TTC does much of its maintenance work on the subway at the conclusion of service each night, it will continue to require weekend closures to complete improvements to infrastructure and signals, such as automatic train control,” said the TTC in a statement.  It’s estimated that one weekend of work during a subway closure equals about five weeks of nightly work.
