Toronto Scene Update: Week of December 9 2011

We have everything you need to stay in-the-know about Toronto's social scene, including several new resto openings and can't-miss events for young professionals

Ah, how we just love staying up-to-date on what’s going on in the Big Smoke. Without delay, here’s your Toronto scene update for the day. (We also love rhymes.)

Kirei Sushi+Bar opened its doors on December 1st, though to little fanfare or hype. We don’t know why, the sake and cocktail list is buff and complex, and the rolls look magnifico. The interior is Japanese-inspired, with some interesting (read: contrasting) additions by way of the chairs repurposed from the space’s previous restaurant, L’Apero.

Terroni‘s new location north on Yonge at Price opened Tuesday. Now Summerhillers have their very own spot for Southern Italian-inspired fare.

Ascari Enoteca, which we’ve previously written about, opened this past week as well. It’s wine bar style comes from the brilliant team behind Table 17.

The Ace Restaurant on Roncy reopened fully updated. Serving eclectic and haute pub grub and brunch on weekends, it’s a great new joint for West Enders.

Bier Markt just opened its new location at the Shops at Don Mills. The large expanse is in line with the two previous locations, and boasts the same superb beer list. North Toronto folk rejoice!

Duggan’s Brewery may have closed a few months ago, but another brewer is taking over the space. Building Permit signs reference Creemore Springs Brewery on the door. A micro-brew location? Gastropub? Retail spot? We’ll have to wait to find out.

CHEESEWERKS is on slate to open next Friday the 16th. They’ll dole out free grilled cheese sandwiches from 12pm to 2pm on opening day.

With everyone all atwitter about the new Loblaws opening at Maple Leaf Gardens, the news of the Queen and Portland location flew pretty well under the radar. Props to having a suburb style Walmart/Loblaws combo right in the heart of downtown though.

Bloke & 4th opened with a massive party last night. The latest venture courtesy gourmands The Food Dudes is an ample size with two wings catering to various crowds.

L.A.B. (live and breathe) Restaurant on College is now serving brunch on Saturdays, big news for fans of this delicious eatery.

Tavolino opened near King and Bathurst just over a week ago, serving gourmet sandwiches by way of a chic and modern interior.

And a pinball-themed cafe is set to open shop in Parkdale early next year. We’ve got SPiN Toronto, Snakes and Lattes, Rebel Bingo, and soon pinball. Are we potentially (hopefully) on the apex of a new wave of vintage game-filled awesomeness in the city?
