Toronto Scene Update: March 20, 2012

Time for another TO scene update to keep you in-the-know of all things restaurant in the city. From more pizza (because the city’s so lacking…not) to sandwiches and cocktails coming together under one roof, we’ve got the buzz you need to vibe with…

Pizza e Pazzi just opened up a second location also on St. Clair West last week, serving up more of their authentic Neapolitan ‘zas for a new neighbourhood of hungry noshers. They’re in soft-launch right now and plan on a Grand Opening set for March 29th. Just be sure to adhere to “the rules” when you order up.

Midfield Wine Bar and Tavern opened a couple weeks ago and is already impressing vino-loving sippers thanks to its emphasis on eclectic wines from regions rarely found on lists around the city. They currently only offer a bit of meats and cheeses as accompaniment, though a tapas style menu meant to complement the wine will be rolled out in the coming weeks. Find it on Dundas West.

A semi-novel concept, combining two burgeoning city trends – gourmet sandwiches and expert cocktails – This End Up Sandwiches and Cocktails opened its doors just this past week on Dundas West. Open lunch through dinner, except Tuesdays, This End Up boasts sandwiches like the fried chicken thigh and smoked pork belly banh mi with cocktails as awkwardly named as the KY and Salvia #1.

Suits Lobby Lounge at Trump Tower opened up recently, giving Bay Streeters another after-work cocktail joint to kick back after the daily grind. It’s not as large as the demand is already calling for, and you’ll find it pretty packed shortly after 6pm. A nice little joint to grab a pint or other libations come punch out. And yes, the crowd is typically suit-clad.

For those inclined to dining out routinely (and aren’t we all?), Stop for Food is running April 1st through 30th at 20 participating restaurants. Add $5 to the total cost of your bill at any one of these eateries and proceeds will go directly to the Stop Community Food Centre. It’s a great way to get your food fix and help a local iniative.

Another great way to dine out and give back comes in the form of A Taste for Life on April 25th. Grab a reservation at any of the restaurants involved on April 25th and 25% of your bill will be sent through to Fife House, an organization that helps provide affordable housing and support to persons and families living with HIV/AIDS.
