Toronto Men’s Fashion Week Will Launch Toronto Women’s Fashion Week in 2017

Last week, Toronto’s most fashionable were found snapping away at Toronto’s Mattamy Athletic Centre for Toronto Men’s Fashion Week (TOM).

Held each February and August, it celebrates some of the country’s most talented designers.

Now, it looks like the ladies are getting in on the action.

Less than two months after Toronto Fashion Week announced it would be a thing of the past due to lack of support, organizers for TOM said that they would launch Toronto Women’s Fashion Week in February 2017.

According to advisory council member Roger Gingerich – a well-known fashion broker with more than 30 years in the apparel industry – the plan has been “in the works ever since it was announced that IMG was pulling out of Toronto,” as reported by Canadian Press.

The women’s showcase will likely run back-to-back with the men’s in February and August.

The length of the week will depend on the lineup of designers.

While Toronto Fashion Week ultimately derailed over a lack of sponsorship dollars, that doesn’t mean the interest and support wasn’t there. Gingerich is confident that there are sponsors, designers, media and consumers that could support the event.

“There’s tons of support here in the Toronto marketplace and Toronto here as a whole,” says Gingerich. “The designers are world class, the media is here, the consumers are here, but the market is changing.”

Whatever they’re doing for TOM, it seems to be working.
