Toronto Fashion Week: Bustle SS14

Canada’s leading sportswear label, Bustle, is predominantly known for its forward twist on classic menswear. Despite the fall chill in the air, designer Shawn Hewson made us feel the heat of the tropics with his spring collection. In keeping with the typical laid-back charm of a Bustle show, the spirit of an island holiday was no surprise.

Bustle’s spring collection paints a colourful picture with bright yellow blazers and bold mixed tropical prints, but their strong focus on fit, luxurious fabrics and attention to detail is not overlooked. Hewson’s playfulness with prints and colour, and his dramatic layering of pieces, adds fun and flair. He brings new life to classic floral patterns, but understands that not everyone may be ready for the warm-weather wardrobe staple of the once kitschy Hawaiian print, so he also offers us handsome basics and colour-blocked suits to keep the look casual and preppy.

For young professionals willing to take on this trend, pair a patterned jacket with a solid-coloured short or pant. For the more adventurous, try a printed pant with a cleaner top, but take note: Hewson’s look is bold yet tailored. These saucy slacks must be very well fitted so you don’t end up looking like you wore your PJs to the office.

One of the biggest trends for spring is the bomber jacket. Bustle offers them in abundance, from linen to colour-blocked, and printed to athletic. These jackets are a must for every man’s spring wardrobe.

Whether you choose to take a fashion trip to the tropics or play it safe with Bustle’s classic pieces, there is something for every YP in Bustle’s spring collection.
