Toronto Fashion Week: Bustle FW 2014 Collection and After Party

Bustle has gone fishing with their FW 2014 show as designers Shawn Hewson and Ruth Promislow once again reeled us in with their always-entertaining presentation.

From textiles to silhouettes, Bustle steered their typical, cheeky classic menswear designs into a fashionable take on fishing wear. Flood pants were replaced by ribbed ankle cuff joggers, pullover soft-shell jackets turned sharp in army and tan hues and slim elastic waist cargos were tucked into rain boots. Colour-blocked turtlenecks, plaid trenches and textured, double breasted shawl collar cardigans rocked the typical piscary fashion boat.

Hewson and Promislow paid close attention to details throughout the collection. Pocket watch chains were affixed to vests, zippers were attached on the sides of puffer pants and leather belts were used to cinch the waistlines of trenches. Quilted leather sleeves increased elegance to varsity jackets and even suits were made up of textured blazers and coordinating elastic ankle pants. Adding distinct elbow patches onto knits, leather linings inside of coats and a glimpse of plaid on a classic denim jacket created additional brilliance to the assembly.

With Bustle’s focus on fit, luxurious fabrics, attention to detail and full range, there was nothing fishy about this collection.

After the show, we hit the Bustle after party at Quad Spin on King West (yes, the spinning club right below Everleigh). Though we were slightly skeptical at first by the venue of choice, the space was free of any lingering scent of sweat (which wouldn’t have gone over well with this crowd) and lent itself nicely as an event space. The guest list included Canada’s fashion elite and Toronto nightlife regulars and was packed with high fashion photographers, media, designers, models and even young professionals from other industries who were looking to get in on the action. As in the past, the event was co-hosted by Sharp Magazine, and the space was peppered with copies of the Canadian men’s magazines, which were up for grabs for guests. The expert mixologists from Martini Club were on-site to serve up an assortment of refreshing cocktails made with Absolut Elyx, courtesy of Absolut Canada. The space was still bustling (we had to) as midnight approached and we called it a night, but we heard the party continued well into the early morning hours.
