Vancouver rejoiced at the arrival of another British invasion, this time of the fashion variety, as TOPSHOP and TOPMAN opened its doors at The Bay’s downtown Granville store. Born out of London in the swinging sixties, TOPSHOP has grown to become an international fashion authority with its signature British High Street style. The brand made its first foray into Canada one year ago with the opening of their Yorkdale store in Toronto. The 33,000-square foot Vancouver location is now their largest international flagship store.
The design and layout of the store is meant to transport shoppers back to the brand’s ultra-cool flagship Oxford Circus location, with polished black glass, sleek metals and white neon signs. Women are all-but taken on a journey throughout the various areas of TOPSHOP which are grouped by trends of the season like “Witching Hour,” “Factory Girl,” and “Psychedelic Dandy”. The accessories, makeup, denim and maternity departments are flanked by the store’s crowning glory, a massive shoe boutique.
Gentlemen enter TOPMAN to be instantly greeted by a whirlwind of colour, patterns and textures that adorn stylish mannequins. YP men can expect an instant infusion of High Street style into their boardroom looks with TOPMAN’s fitted suits and dapper formal range – and for those not quite as confident when it comes to style, TOPMAN features an on-site stylist to assist.
In true TOPSHOP form, the launch of the store made a stylish splash with a packed schedule of events, and the Notable team was on hand to cover all the action. The day began with a private VIP shopping event where the store opened its doors to allow select shoppers to get their first look and, most importantly, pick out their outfits for the rest of the evening’s festivities. Next, a select group of the city’s fashion influencers were invited to an intimate dinner with TOPSHOP and TOPMAN executives. Finally, nearly 1,000 people filled the room at Vancouver’s largest nightclub, FIVESIXTY, for the official launch party. The well-dressed group mixed, mingled and danced the night away to a private performance by Canadian indie rock band Metric.
