Today’s Notable 3some in Toronto: May 7, 2014

Here’s a trio of the hottest things you can do on the first Hump Day of May.*

Gordon Lightfoot
Where: Hamilton Place
When: 8:00pm

Anytime you get to see a living legend in action, it’s worth it – even if it means going to Hamilton. If you could read the mind of the man who brought you The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald you’d be in a pretty good place. And while heroes often fail, Gordon Lightfoot isn’t one of them. When Bob Dylan calls you one of his favourite songwriters you know you’ve done something special. Steeltown is definitely the place to be this hump day.

Tie One On
Where: The Hoxton
When: 6:00pm

No, we’re not telling you to have a big night out. We’re talking about a great Toronto charity called Homes First whose main goal is to provide affordable, stable housing and support to break the cycle of homelessness in our city. Up for auction at Tie One On will be scarves and ties donated from the closets of Charlize Theron, Julianne Moore, Reese Witherspoon, and many, many more. When’s the last time you got to accessorize and help out our city at the same time?

Ultimate Food Challenge
Where: Corus Quay, 25 Dockside Dr.
When: 6:00pm

A trio of Toronto’s hottest chefs take each other on in a culinary battle in which you get to help decide the winner. Donna Dooher (Mildred’s Temple Kitchen), Daniel Mezzolo (Gusto 101), and Saverio Macri (Ciao Wine Bar) will prepare dishes for a panel of expert judges and you, the lucky audience member. And it’s all in support of the Daily Bread Food Bank, a non-profit, charitable organization that’s fighting to end hunger in our city. Food for thought, indeed.

*Of course, no one would blame you for staying in to ponder Ryan’s journey from O.C. to Gotham
